PROFILE: Picard, Jean-Luc, distinguished himself during his Starfleet Academy days by being the best shuttle pilot of his class. His first command was with the U.S.S. Stargazer where he served 22 years. He is Captain of the fifth Enterprise, the flagship of the Federation. He noted that he is proud to carry on the tradition of the Enterprise as initiated by the renowned Captain James T. Kirk, Presently over 1000 crew members are under his command. Picard's hobbies include fencing, horseback riding, and tropical fish. He also enjoys reading Shakespeare and detective novels. Picard is an amateur archaeologist and has a deep sense of history.
