Cartoons

It's time to show some love for animation, this contest is all about cartoons! Whether it be from an animated feature films, online videos, commercials, or the standard half hour shows we all know and love, all original cartoon characters are fair game for this contest. You can go the silly route with something like Looney Toons, Tom & Jerry, Freakazoid, or Animaniacs. The more serious route with something from Exo-Squad, Thundercats, Transformers or Gargoyles. Or anything in between like Foamy the Squirrel, Strongbad, the Trix rabbit, or even the Scrubbing Bubbles. You can draw on any corner of the cartoon kingdom.

-DC and Marvel characters are not allowed for this contest. While things like X-Men and Batman are both cartoons, they are at their heart comic book creations. The exception to this rule are characters that originated in a cartoon format. So a character like Spyke from X-Men Evolution would be allowed, even though the X-Men in general are not.

-Characters don't have to be part of an actual cartoon to qualify, they just need to be a cartoon character. So characters from live action movies like Roger Rabbit, or from commercials like Trix Rabbit are both legal entries even though they don't come from cartoon programming.

-Upon consideration claymation characters are allowed.

-As always there are no size restrictions for this contest. You may use any sort of materials, parts, tools or techniques that you wish. Whatever gets the job done.

What is the contest schedule?
Begins: Contest Closed
Ends: February 28th, 2013 - Last day for submissions. No exceptions! Cut off is at midnight Central Standard Time.
Voting: March 1st - 7th.
Managed By: Green Skin

What are the rules of the contest?
  • Please use the form here to submit your custom figure.
  • At least a paragraph description is required with your entry. This paragraph, at a minimum, should answer the following questions:
    • How was this custom customized?
    • How does the custom fit into the contest theme?
  • You may submit up to three different entries for the contest.
  • Please only submit figures that were created for this contest. Do not submit old figures from the Showcase or previous contest entries.
  • Your entry should not be posted on this website, any other website, or anywhere on the internet until the contest is completely over.
  • The pictures for your entry will remain hidden until the contest ends and the voting begins.
  • Your identity will remain hidden until after the voting completes.
  • Do not include names, logos, signatures or anything on the pictures that will give you away as the creator of the custom. We want to keep the customizer's identity a secret until the contest is over.
  • Don't wait until the last day to submit your entries. If your internet is down, or something happens beyond your control, you will miss the contest! Also keep in mind how many customs you can submit in one day. You may not be able to submit all your entries in one day.
  • The contest is purely for fun... well... and bragging rights!
How does the contest voting work?
Anyone can vote for their favorite customs in the contest, you don't even have to submit anything to the contest! You do have to be logged-in to your Figure Realm account though so we can keep track of the votes. Only appointed Figure Realm staff can see the votes, so anonymity is guaranteed. Voting begins once the entry deadline is met and lasts for a week.

It's hard to choose just one custom to vote on when there are tons of great entries, so Figure Realm has a unique voting system where you can vote on ALL the customs! When you click on an entry to view, there's a bar with buttons on it that lets you give the custom anywhere from 1 to 5 Stars. 1 Star means you think they could have done a better job on the custom while 5 Stars means you think they did a perfect job. The votes for each entry are added up when voting is closed and averaged-out to determine the winners. Also, don't abuse the system. Don't give your own custom 5 Stars and then give everyone else 1 Star to boost your rating. Remember, the votes are monitored.

Some points you might consider when casting your vote: Is the figure well-made? Is the paint smooth or crusty? Are there noticeable fingerprints on the sculpted parts? Is it an original custom? Is it accurate to the source-material (comics, photos, description in a book)? Are the pictures clear enough to see the details? Did the creator take the time to include a back-story or recipe? Is the custom so unbelievably awesome that you'd trade your girlfriend for it?

Craftsmanship and creativity are major factors to consider, but ultimately your vote should depend on how much you like the custom, and how well you feel it fits the contest theme.

I see marvel & dc are out (except if the character originated in a cartoon), what about originally indy comic characters from shows like the tick or ninja turtles? would they have to be characters that originated in the animated version too or is any non marvel or dc character thats appeared in a cartoon ok?
Green Skin -

The restriction only applies to Marvel & DC characters now. Tick & TMNT are both okay now.

Also, one more question. Since Sonic X was a show based off of a video game series it wouldn't be aloud, but would characters who were exclusive to the show be aloud?
Green Skin -
Saturday, January 12, 2013
With the rules revisions Sonic X characters are allowed.

Now you say Transformers are aloud, but didn't the toyline come first? Wasn't the awesome tv show based off of toys? Also I think its awesome that you mentioned Strongbad in the rules. I doubt anyone even knows who he is!
Green Skin -
Saturday, January 12, 2013
Yeah I love me some Strongbad! I'm glad at least one person here knows who he is.

We made a revision to the rules, now the only thing banned are Marvel & DC comic characters.

I'm sorry... I don't understand when you said Dragonball characters are allowed. Does that mean Dragonball characters only (like Emperor Pilaf, Arale etc.), or does it mean Dragonball Z as well?
Green Skin -
Saturday, January 12, 2013
Yes Dragonball Z characters are allowed. When I say Dragonball characters I'm talking about the characters from all the various Dragonball shows.

Wouldn't Harley Quinn be a legal entry? She did first appear in the animated series. Also does the character have to look "cartoony"? What I mean is could you do the character in a more realistic style?
Green Skin -
Saturday, January 12, 2013
Yes she would, she was first introduced in Batman:TAS. No the entries are not required to look cartoony, but you do have to use the cartoon costume.

Does it mean we cannot over accessorized or add more accessories to the Cartoon character's costume aside from making more realistic Sir?

As long as there is an actual cartoon then you can use it for an entry. If it's just rumors and a few pics, then no.

one last question what about dragon ball af
Green Skin -
Friday, January 11, 2013
Is that an official Dragonball series? I thought GT was the last one. Either way the rules have been revised, Dragon Ball cartoons are now allowed.

**** The rules are being revised. Now instead of all comic inspired characters being banned from the contest, it's just Marvel & DC characters that are banned.

Ye've got a picture of Bucky, but according to the rules he'd be exempt. Bucky O'Hare was a comic book in 1978.

My bad, didn't realize he had a comic.

Thursday, January 10, 2013
What about Ninja Turtles? they were a comic first but best known as a Cartoon.
Green Skin -
Thursday, January 10, 2013
For TMNT we'll stick with not allowed unless it's a character that debuted on one of the cartoons. Since we just had a TMNT contest I'd rather not make an exception for them. Keeps it simpler that way and doesn't open the flood gates for more shows that are best known for the cartoon but don't technically qualify.
Green Skin -
Friday, January 11, 2013
****With the revised rule TMNT characters are now allowed.
