My friend Al is working on a Wonder Woman fan project, developing his idea of a Wonder Woman TV series and I pitch in now and again. He told me that he would love to see his Wonder Woman design realised as a custom action figure, so I obliged - little did I know how much of a pain this one would be! The concept called for Wonder Woman to have her arms and legs covered in scale mail, instead of the traditional bare arms and legs, and to have a Greco-Roman inspired sculpted breastplate. I've included two of Al's concept sketches; as you can see, the final figure doesn't follow them exactly but eh, it's close enough.
The base figure was a DCUC Big Barda, with the head from a DCUC Star Sapphire Wonder Woman. There was a fair bit of dremelling involved, and the breastplate, belt, bracelets and boot cuffs were all sculpted. The hook on Wonder Woman's belt was a bit of twisty wire, so she can attach her golden lasso (which was from the Star Sapphire Wonder Woman figure). The cape was painted up; capes generally don't really agree with paint but the rigid DCUC capes are better than most. Al was a little concerned that the overall look was too close to Barda, but I think it's different enough.
Thanks for looking!
