Is a forum ID not the same as the parent site ID?

I did search the forums, but didn't turn much up. Does one need to register at both levels?

yes you need to register differently for the custom showcase, they are 2 seperate parts of the site. the custom showcase is for displaying your customs and has its own features, while the forums allow you a variety of other options. if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.
