Dark night joker

Postby Wesr » Fri Sep 24, 2010 7:28 pm

Why are people so big on him? He wasn't that nuts, he wasn't that funny. He wasn't much of a joker. Everywhere i look people say he's a best, even complaining about Mark Hamill not being more like him in the new batman games. Heath Ledger was a crap actor, let's face it. the only good part in the movie with him was when he tried to blow up the hospital and the detonator didn't work at first. I'd rather have seen more of Two face, at least he was cool looking.

While I don't think Heath was a crap actor, I agree that (imo) his Joker performance wasn't as great as many people seem to think and I believe that his perceived performance was inflated quite a bit because of the actor's death... similar to Brandon Lee in The Crow.

Oddly that version of the crow was more of a Joker-style i'd like than Ledger's. It had a slightly insane quality but he also sometimes had a quirky sense of humor before killing the guys who killed him. I still like Caesar Romero, Jack nickelson, and mark Hamill as jokers. Problem is half the kids who saw this movie never bother to watch older movies so they haven't got a clue what a good film is or any point of reference.

YES!
TDK Joker is HIGHLY overrated.
I hate hearing people that have never even picked up a comic in their entire life say.
"He's more true the comics"

I can sum things up in this: modern teenagers for the most part are brain dead technologically spoiled dorks who need to learn to appreciate older things. I can say this because i was one until i hit 25 and realized that i missed out on alot of good things because i thought they were too old to be any good.

Just so folks don't make the mistake of thinking everything that's older was good. The 80s (for example) had some total crap along with it's gems.

As much as I loved the Superfriends back in the day, I have to admit it was pretty awful.

lol. oh i agree there are always stinkers but you even have to appreciate them. I'm a huge fan of 1950s sci fi and b movies, some of them are terrible but considering what they had to work with its not that bad. I'm just a bitter old fart :(

I resent that.
I don't see why there's such a big fuss over heath ledgers joker,I thought he was good. Before you crucify me for saying that just let me say I also very much liked matt hamills joker.ledgers joker was appealing to me because it was just a dark and sadistik take on the joker.I can't say much for nicholson's but I know his was a bit more comedic.I think people need to just accept the fact that not everybody likes the same stuff,I would figure the older members such as your self would get that by now.

Do you mean mark hamill ? either way I liked the dark knight joker a lot I almost watched it as an elseworld joker like almost a whole different joker so I was able to enjoy it although I do enjoy nicholson joker a great deal as well and mark hamill's joker was probably my all time favorite interpretation . but I enjoy the old stuff and the new I can like Boris Karloff and Robert Pattinson

I don't agree even in the slightest. Heath's Joker was amazing. For me, he made Joker interesting again, and before that, I was so over The Joker. He brought an entirely different life to the role. For that very reason, I can't get tired of TDK. Hell right now, due to my Heath Joker obsession, I'm trying like crazy to get my hands on a Movie Masters Joker figure....and I seem to be getting little to nowhere with it. It's really getting on my nerves. But yeah, I personally can't see how someone wouldn't like Ledger's Joker. He was so extreme and so frightening in his insanity...

I LOVE HEATH LEDGER'S JOKER! This is speaking from an acting stand point. I am myself am an actor and I can appreciate both sides of the spectrum when it comes to acting. For some people the more natural the actor is the better the performance. On the other hand some people like it when an actor does research and creates a character from the ground up and then wear that character, so to speak.

Jack Nicholson was so natural in his performance you can't help but see Jack behind the makeup. Jacks a funny guy with charisma shooting out his wazoo. But for my money, he wasn't The Joker, just Jack Nicholson. Who I like and respect as an actor.

Mark Hamill is one of my favorite Jokers hands down. I think if we saw him do a real life Joker, it would be something more akin to Heath Ledgers in that we wouldn't see Mark Hamill, but the Joker instead. Is it just me or is that a scary thought?

Here's an example of what I'm talking about: Willy Wonka. Gene Wilder vs. Johnny Depp. Gene WIlder was more natural in his role of Wonka. He came off as genuinely creepy and crazy, and for my money was the better Wonka. Johnny Depp tried to create that but he failed. His act reeked of tired old ideas and cliches, a very poorly built Wonka was what we got in the end.

I believe that when there is a larger than life character to tackle you need one of two things: A larger than life actor or a really talented actor who can fully envelop himself in the character he's creating. As with the example above, Depp is a larger than life actor. We couldn't help but see Depp and not Wonka, which is why he resorted to lame shticks and gimmicks.

Which brings me back to my point. Heath Ledger. The man knew what he was doing. Sure it was all created, but what he created was a masterpiece. You can see all the research and work that went into that role. He created a being with charisma and humor and psychosis that wasn't him and then wore it like a glove. He was the Joker! All the ticks and laughs were the Joker, not Heath Ledger. He simply wore the Joker and he wore it well.

Something tells me thought that had he lived he would've started feeling the pangs of typecasting. Watch The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus and tell me I'm wrong. He would've had a really hard time erasing that role from peoples minds and finding different roles. The other thing is that although he was the definitive Joker of our time, he will undoubtedly be "1-uped" by someone in another 15 or 20 years. I look forward to it, but for my money, Heath Ledger was the Best JOKER...so far.

The Joker was the only good part of that movie.

Ugh, I really hate the Dark Knight.

I really like Batman Begins, but I really hate the Dark Knight.

Agreed. I've seen all the Jokers mentioned above but TDK was the best. He played it more crazy than funny and I thought it was brilliant.

The way it should be taken is that every person who has portrayed the CRAZY CLOWN has been the best....the reason for saying that is look at how Joker has been portrayed in the comics for the past 20years or so, each writer each artist has there own interpretation of what he should be like, some think he's funny, some think psychotic etc...but the truth is no matter how many different versions there are he will always be the same JOKER, what I'm trying to say is that whether you loved or hated the Heath Ledger version, it should just be seen as one of the Jokers many personalities but still remain the same chracter as the one played by Jack Nicholson, the Jack version was his playing/joking side where as the Heath version was the not playing/barely joking side of Joker, the Mark Hamill version was both (but for animated reasons toned down) I don't expect people to agree with me, I just want you to take into consideration that if Joker or any comic related character were real they would have real emotions...(ie;) you can have a good day or you can have a bad day and something like that would change your mood, you might act different, talk to people different.........like ME, sometimes I'm an A$$HOLE and sometimes I'm not, but I'm still the same person :D
