Let me explain, my two boys ages 7 and 5 have just started into the Star Wars stories. They haven’t seen all the movies but enough of them to know the stories by the episodes. The other night at supper my 7 yr. says “Dad why is it called Return of the Jedi?” So (being the expert I am) I answer it’s because Obi-Wan and Yoda were the last two Jedi’s left, and then Obi-wan let himself lose the fight with Darth Vader and then Yoda dies just because he’s so old. But before he dies he tells Luke that he is the last Jedi left after he faces Vader.”
Then my boy looks at me and says” I think it’s because Darth Vader turns back to the good side to kill the emperor before he kills Luke.” “And that makes it the Return of the Jedi.”
I sat there stunned. This had never occurred to me. To make matters worse, I’m pretty sure He’s right- has everyone else known this and it’s just me that missed it?
