Clear Coating - Anyone know any good tricks for metallics?

Got a Steampunk custom I am working on right now and it has some metallic paint on it and I don't want to ruin it with a clear, but I do want to clear coat it when I am finished to protect it. Any tips on what to do for the metallic areas? I know most clear coats will dull it down, but if there are any tips from people who have had success with other methods, please let me know! Thanks!!

maybe try a glossy clear coat such as modge podge gloss sealant...
