Masking tape trouble

I'm doing a custom of a character with diamond patterns on his costumes. However, the tape that I cut to create the diamonds didn't keep paint out that well, meaning that I have to repaint sizeable chunks of my figure. How do you prevent this? Is there any brand that is ideal for customizes?

try that green frog tape you get at the hardware stores..its suposed to keep out paint better than plain masking tape . and ive used it before and it worked wel
