TMNT sewer display diorama

Postby leafman343 » Fri Jul 02, 2010 1:43 pm

I did this as a quick project to spruce up my turtles display, only took a few hours to make.
The brick wall is a 1/2" thick piece of styrofoam, which I drew out the bricks and then dremeled in the mortar. I base coated the wall black and brushed on brown paint and filled the mortar in with brown to hide the white foam. Finished it off with a gloss sealer on the bricks to make them stand out more and give them a wet look.
The pipes are actual pvc plumbing bits called flush bushings. Painted them grey and drew black rings on the edges to give them a comic feel.
The base is a cardboard box with stone fleck textured spray paint, I custom mixed several shades of grey (too cheap to buy grey paint ) and dry brushed them on to make it look like concrete.
Once all the paint was dry and everything assembled I used hot glue to make the sewer slime and coated it with some model masters clear green.

That's a great price, the cheapest I've found is £70 with shipping.

Do the pipes go the whole way through to the back? I'm tempted to create a display for some of my Mario themed figures. Watch out for those Piranha Plants!

Yeah they do go all the way through to the back, I thought about putting a piece of black paper on the back so you can't see through the pipes, but then I got lazy
If you can find the flush bushings, I think they would look great for piranha plants. I got mine at home depot, I don't remember if lowes had them or not.

I'm not sure if black paper would look that great. I recommend you take some cardboard and paint it ghost gray with a hint of green.

That is awesome. I think displays are way too cool to not have but they just take up so much space
