Experience on NY Comic Con

Hi All,
Two friends of mine are going to the New York Comic Con in October. It will be their first time there, I wish i could go with them. Anyway, has anyone ever been to NYCC? if you had, how early do you have to be there before the line gets out of control? Any experiences you had in Comic Con will be appreciated. Thanks
