Splatter House !

Postby Golden Wolf » Fri Jan 01, 2010 7:08 pm

Back in the glory days of the Sega Genesis, I was all about “Splatterhouse.” The idea of playing a guy that resembled Jason Voorhees appealed directly to my horror-soaked brain, especially since the main character was a sinister badass who could easily break apart monsters with his bare hands. Rumors of a supposed “remake” have been circulating for years, but now, it seems, the game is finally coming together. The kindly folks lurking behind-the-scenes at Kotaku have posted several screenshots from the upcoming “Splatterhouse” reboot
, and I must say, it looks pretty faithful to the original series. Unfortunately, this puppy won’t see the light of day until September of 2010, so I suppose these pics will have to satisfy my virtual bloodlust until then.

As long as I still get to smash monsters with a large chunk of wood, I’ll be a happy weirdo.

I played the game a few times on Genesis, and enjoyed it, but I never got the chance to really play through it. It's one of the few expensive Genesis games out there because of it's rarity.

Throwing down my geek card here: Splatterhouse was originally on the TurboGrafx-16, not the Sega Genesis.

I got splatterhouse 2 with box for 10 bucks cdn!!!!

I got splatterhouse 1 for the Turbografx-16 for 17.00 Shipped U.S.

So I've managed to get a few good deals on them. I did pay a lot for splatterhouse 3 though (16.99 cart only cdn)

But Splatterhouse was actully an Jappanse Arcade game first in 1988. In 1990 is ported to the TG-16 athough extremly heavily edited. If you have mame check out the arcade version it was decades ahead of it's time in terms with violence. The arcade verson is supposed to be only avabile in Japan but there have been a few reports of Units being found outside Japan although they are very rare.

Wasn't that the first game rated AO or am I just getting old and mixing memories?

Splatterhouse and it's sequeals were made before the ESRB was made.

They had no rattings at the time. (Well one had a self imposed Sega rating or something but I forget)

Today they have been reviewed by the ESRB because they are on Wii virtual console.

The rattings are as follows:

Splatterhouse 1 is rated Teen

Splatterhouse 2 is rated Mature

Splatterhouse 3 is rated Teen

I Always Liked The Story For This Game This Would Be A Great Movie Well Heres The Story From Wikipedia
Story
Two university students, Rick and Jennifer, take refuge from a storm in The West Mansion, a local landmark known as "Splatterhouse" for the rumors of hideous experiments purportedly conducted there by Dr. West, a renowned and missing parapsychologist. At the mansion, the two are attacked by demonic creatures that drag Jennifer into the house and fatally wound Rick, leaving him for dead.[3]

Rick awakens in the dungeon of the mansion to discover that he is still alive thanks to the influence of the "Terror Mask", or in some versions, the "Hell Mask", a Mayan sacrificial artifact from West's house which is capable of sentient thought. The mask attaches itself to Rick, fusing with his body and transforming him into a monster with superhuman strength. With the mask's encouragement, Rick goes on a rampage through the dungeon and the mansion grounds, killing hordes of monsters.[3] Inside the mansion, Rick finds Jennifer, prone on a couch and surrounded by a throng of creatures that retreat upon his arrival. After their departure, Jennifer transforms into a giant, fanged monster that attempts to kill Rick while begging him for help. Rick kills Jennifer, who transforms back into her normal self and thanks him before she dies. Infuriated, Rick tracks the remaining monsters to a giant, bloody hole in the mansion's floor. Upon entering it, Rick discovers that the mansion itself is alive. He follows a bloody hallway, the house's "womb", which is producing fetus-like monsters that attack him.[4] Rick destroys the womb, which causes the house to set ablaze as it "dies".

Escaping the burning mansion, Rick comes across a grave marker. The Terror Mask releases energy into the grave, reviving a giant monster that claws its way up from the earth and attempts to kill Rick. Rick destroys the creature, which unleashes a tormented ghost that dissipates into a series of bright lights. As the lights vanish, the mask explodes from Rick's face, turning him back to normal. Rick flees as the house burns to the ground. However, after he leaves, the pieces of the Terror Mask reassemble themselves and laugh.

Now this is my Opinion
Now Even DR. Uwe Boll Could do this Video game Movie Justice . UWE BOLL Rocks!

'Splatterhouse' Remake Lets You Kick it Old Schoolby Carl Lyon, Mon., Apr. 12, 2010 3:02 PM PDT
As if there weren’t enough reasons to love Namco Bandai’s upcoming reboot of the Splatterhouse franchise, Official Playstation Magazine just gave us three more…the original game trilogy will come with the game as an unlockable bonus! More after the break!

According to Destructoid, details in the current issue of Official Playstation Magazine state that the forthcoming Splatterhouse will come with the original uncensored Japanese arcade version of the first game as opposed to the still-awesome but slightly neutered TurboGrafx 16 port, as well as Splatterhouse 2 and 3 as they appeared on the Sega Genesis. This is not going to be a “preorder bonus” or an extra DLC pack, but a true unlockable bonus on the disc.

The thought of chainsawing demonic fetuses and bashing flesh-eating worms with a two-by-four has me absolutely giddy with nostalgic anticipation. I think I need to go lie down now.

Splatterhouse will be released in September on Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
