Question About My Toy Collection

Postby FramusChuck » Tue Mar 09, 2010 10:03 am

I didn't see a forum just for this question, so I thought I would throw it out here.

I was going through my toy collection (I never knew I had so many freaking action figures!) and I decided that I wanted to get rid of some of them.

First, I obviously went to eBay to see what they were selling for, and a large percentage of them could be considered utterly worthless - based off eBay research.

So, I was wondering, could someone explain to me why the following: Spawn, Toybiz Xmen/Spidey/Iron Man/FF, Batman, GI Joe, Star Wars, AvP, and TMNT are all virtually worthless? I started to see a trend in stuff from the 90's being just worth next to jack - and I was wondering if this was because of over production or anything. I mean, I have a ton of toys from the 80's too, but I was wondering if someone could explain to me the used toy/old toy market for me, as I have been out of the loop for so long!

Thank you!!!!

Sometime back in the 80's people discovered that toys they had when they were young could be valuable if they were kept in good condition. The toys had value because kids tend to play rough and break their toys, so things like original GI Joe's were rare to find in mint condition. The idea that people got in their heads was that if they bought toys and stuffed them in closets mint in the package, 10-20 years later they would have something really valuable. Problem was, too many people thought it was a good idea and now there is a large supply of 80's and 90's toys and not nearly enough demand for them.

I reckon it's all about the age of the people who want this stuff. For example I was born in the 80s and had lots of the 80s toys, of course being a kid I played the heck out of them, now I'm 28 and look back fondly on the memories of my childhood toys, this makes me want them, therefore I am more likely to pay a bit for them. People born in the 90s will now be 20 max, I know when I was 20, all I wanted to do was go out with my mates not buy toys, but now i'm older I want them all again, supply and demand I say?!!?
