Batman vs. Superman

A recent post on another board I post onmade me start thinking of this. What are everyone's thoughts on this fight if it went down. And we're not talking about a training session or some sissy fight, we're talking with the gloves off.

I think Batman doesn't stand a chance, personally. Yeah, he's Batman and he's the best darn human around, but he's still just human. Superman is a Kryptonian, a Kryptonian with years of experience with his awesome powers. Superman has also overcome a little thing like Kryptonite plenty of times. If that is Bats' strategy, he better bring enough to drop on top of Superman.

I have to ask this before I can say who would win, even though this is an all out fight would Superman still consider Batman a friend and still hold his no killing policy?

If he does, Batman wins.

Batman's plan to take down the man of steel doesn't revolve around a little green rock, that's just for emergency escapes. Batman's plan to beat Supes is to fake his own death making Supes think he killed Batman. When Superman suffers a complete mental breakdown from not only breaking his own moral code but killing one of his best friends, he'll either completely give up being Superman for fear he would kill again or be weak enough for Bats to strike back and kill Superman.

On the other hand, if Superman doesn't mind if he kills Batman, Superman wins in .05 seconds.

yes his plan would have to rely on kryptonite, and yes supes has fought through kryptonite before, but that is when facing off with his enemies.

superman's enemies tend to be idiots. they try to say his enemies are intelligent, but their plans are always moronic.

batman is not an idiot. batman would cover his bases and wouldn't leave that loophole supes always escapes through.

true intelligence > brawn.

just my little opinion.

also, my theories are based on general views. some idiot writers have made batman incompetant, and some writers have made superman a genius, but on both counts, the opposite seems to be the rule.

look i say its a draw....

cuz well batman wood use his kryptonie ring and superman doesnt kill but depowerd supes is actully a pretty strong guy and batman slightly less muscler so meaning slightly weaker but faster and more skilled fighter yeah supes is gonna get his asssss kicked but i think supes can take hit pretty well....but if supes was fast enough to destroy the ring b4 affecting him completlly he beat the crap out of him.....

That in my mind implies a situation where both combatants give the fight everything they have. Batman may be the fan favorite, but he's just a guy. A guy with absolutely no superpowers. Superman has superhuman strength, invulnerability and speed that few other characters in his or any universe could hope to match, let alone exceed. Superman could end the fight before Batman even has a chance to react, if the writer remembers to have him actually use his superspeed. That superspeed is a trump card... a trump card that I just don't think Batman can overcome. Of course, convincing many hardcore Batman fans that Batman is capable of losing to -anyone- can be a tougher fight to win than Forbush Man vs the Hulk.

But wait, you say. Bats has a Kryptonite ring! Do you guys realize how small a bit of kryptonite that is? Batman doesn't just hold it up and Superman loses his powers. He holds it up and Superman gradually gets a little weaker... he still has more than enough power to end a fight with the Batman, and as someone else pointed out, if Superman is farther away than a few feet, the radiation from said kryptonite won't even reach him.

But wait, you say. If Batman has time to plan ahead, he can beat anyone! Ahem, while I do feel that he could overcome many a challenging foe if he had time to prep, there are actually many foes that are simply out of his league, regardless of how thoroughly he prepares or boobytraps the battlefield. That aside, let's be serious... how many fights have any of you out there been in? Now how many of those fights did you have time to prepare for in advance? Most fights in real life and in comics are pretty spur of the moment, so I'd say no as far as giving Batman time to prepare for this fight. The topic was "could Batman beat Superman in a fight?", not "could Batman, if allowed time to maximize every nuance and advantage in his favor beat Superman?".

Just my two cents. Take them for what you will.

As a side note, I should point out that I like Batman as a character far more than I like Superman. But I recognize Superman's capabilities as compared to Batman's. In Marvel, I like Spider-Man a lot more than I like the Hulk, but I have to recognize that there's no way that Spidey is going to win against ole jade jaws.

I think Batman would win. They showed in the comic that he has a stalk of red kriptonite incase he ever neads to figut superman. They also have showed that he has plans for if anyone on the justice leage went bad. He had a room where everything in it was yellow for lanterns. Superman on the other hand probobly has never thought about wat would happen if they fought.

On the subject of prep-time:
If there is something that causes Superman and Batman to get into a serious fight, there probably will have been a lot of tension between the two for awhile, and Batman would have been prepared, because he's that kind of guy. Unless it's some sort of situation where Superman is under mind-control and is told to go kill Batman. And if Batman is thinking that they are going to get into a huge fight, he's probably going to carry more than his kryptonite ring with him.

And if Bats thinks it's a really serious, Superman must be stopped, situation, he would probably call in help from other heroes or even Luthor.

Or if the fight just happens out of nowhere, Batman's isn't going to try to take down Superman unless he is actually able to, so if Bats has nothing with him to take down Supes, he's going to try to escape. But considering Supes' range of powers, Bats isn't very likely to escape, especially if Supes is really trying.

Also, on the subject of Batman faking his death:
Unless there's something he could use to actually temporarily stop his heart, Superman would be able to hear Batman's heartbeat.

So, I'd say: If Bats has prep-time or if Bats is being controlled: Bats has 50% chance of winning
If Superman is being controlled: Bats has a 5% chance of winning

...his plan to just inject kryptonite into Supes' bloodstream with a needle made of the stuff. You know, his plan to Kill Supes rather than just render him impotent.

I also found the support I needed for Batman faking his death.
In The Dark Knight Returns, Batman uses a pill that causes him to suffer what appears to be a fatal heart attack and temporarily stops his heart (or something like that, I never read the comic myself). In the comic though Supes attends the funeral and hears Bruce's heartbeat in the coffin.

Stupid mistake on Bats' fault but also raises the question of how Superman was able to hear Batman's heartbeat with all the other people at the funeral being present. I mean not only are all the other people including Superman making all other kinds of noise, like I don't know, crying? But, all those people have beating hearts and have other bodily functions that make noise. How could Superman filter all of that out to hear the heartbeat of one person who is inside coffin and why would he be listening for it in the first place? Bats was supposed to be dead anyway.

Still I think if Superman wanted to kill/maim/paralyze Batman, he could.
