Deadeye Comics - Deadeye Samurai

Postby deadeyesamurai » Sat Apr 07, 2007 6:23 am

Hi guys, Deadeye here

Being disabled and out of work, I have plenty of free time to work on personal projects

One of which is a series of comicbooks - starting off wth Deadeye Samurai

Image

I'm always Looking for Artists to work on my Original character - Deadeye Samurai

Image

I would do it all myself ( lol and still might) but these days my sight isnt great with visual impairment and it kinda makes me slow but i do get there eventually:)

so I'm looking for anyone that wants to help out?

Heres the start so far

An Archaeologist pursuing an obsession of his stumbles across the scene of an acinetbattle and the remains of a mystical warrior

He becomes a Blind Samurai superhero thats granted the sight to see peoples soul heat signaturesthru being possessed by an ancient Japanese Sun Kami warrior spirit (kinda like a mix of thermographics and DD's radar sense - the blacker the soul the more evil but everything has a red outline)
This possession also gives him the power to control sunlight into creating energy weaponry - and other constantly evolving abilities as the story progresses

I know he looks and sounds like a Mish mash of Kenshi, Daredevil, GL and a few other superheroes, They are admittedly influences - Zatoichi, Onimusha and all sorts of other loves of mine are in the mix to a degree too

But his origins have a new spin on them and his back story is heavily grounded in Japanese Mythology thats hardly been explored much in western comics

And theres several interesting monsters and demons he faces based on Japanese Mythos stories and Japanese horror movies

I'll be making customs of the cast from this comicbook title of mine as time goes on...

My motto is the more the merrier - so if you feel you would like to help out on this project in anyway - let me know

My IM and Email details are in my profile should you like to get in contact

Thanks

Again sorry for the webcam pics - i know theyre crappy - Hope the quality shines thru tho
I'm trying to work out my new Digicam and I aint the most technologically minded person

This is my avvy character and my screen name DEADEYE SAMURAI

I'm currently writing/drawing his comic book origins with other artists. just now and god willing i'd be able to let you guys see it on here some day...

Hes a mishmash in design of Kenshi, Rai, Bloodstone, daredevil and Sunfire for their powers
He can form energy weaponry from an ancient sun kami warrior that possesses him
Usually he wields double red sunlight energy katanas

The comic hes based on I'm going to Post over in the Comics section - Please go over and take a look

- I used real cloth for his undergarments
- Parts of LOTR figures Armour for his Arms n Legs
-Starwars Transformers Vader/Tie Fightr Lightsabers for his energy blades
- A Ms Marvel belt sash for his bandana
- My kids costume jewellry for his head and body gems
- And (I Think) An old X-changers Vambrace for his Shoulder armour

Base figure is a mix of

-LOTR Gil Galead (sp?) for the head (filed down and miliputted)
- Ninja Wolverine upper torso
- Bird of Prey Angel legs and hands

A better improved version is coming :D

I can't sit aorund waiting for the pictures to load (dial-up) but looks good so far!

If you want to post your comics as a thread like this then that's okay, you can also send the pics to Captain Coder and he'll put them in our Comic Section.

Wow Thanks very much for the support Doc!

Thanks to all you guys for the support you've given me here my first full day

And No, Bob-a (great screenname Btw) I dont minding talking about it at all - if anything if I just get it all out here
then i dont have to repeat it

I was born with congenital cateracts in both eyes - at the time opthalmic medical practice werent great
They just said it was short sightedness and i wore 'Joe 90' style thick bottletop glasses to see - i was still a pretty active kid and got the name 'deadeye monkey' at that time

but as time wore on my sight just kept getting worse and worse even when operated on - they were baffled as to why i wasnt seeing after the cateract removal - this was before the days of laser surgery

the cateract surgery covered up the real problem - supressed roots in my optic nerves and obscured capsules at the back of the eye
The cataract would always have a foothold to grow back on this as its genetic not aquired thru old age like most cataracts are...

I needed some really good surgery and some of that new lasik treatment

So when i finally got enough cash together I got private medical care operations - rather than those i had done on the NHS - it let me see again better

But only in one eye - the other ones practically dead - no peripheral vision - just see shadows thru it

The Good eye isnt fantastic either - but its better than nothing

I'm still selectively color blind - certain shades of yellow look white for example - but Colors like Red, Blue and Green really pop out at me - sometimes I get tonal shift where color sorta drains slowly but a few blinks of the eye fixes that

I know I always got the danger of going blind again

Infact the way i see just now is like someones turned up the brightness/contrast in my head evrythings too vivid...

So going out and enjoying a bright, sunny day is a bit of a killer
I have to walk around wearing thick black blindsman shades and a hooded top to drown out light like some forlorn vampire

Even Flourescent lighting slays me after a while exposed to it - so I had to quit working as a graphic artist cos of the studio lights
Working in any kind of brightly lit environment was going to be a strain - god knows - I've tried jobs - 6 months in to them I had to leave due to sight difficulties

But back at home - i can control my environment

My PC Screens got an anti glare filter on it that cuts down light, I can dim the contrast/brightness on the screen to suit me - i sit away from windows and close the curtains/blinds

heres a pic from 10 years ago of me and the wife just after my first surgery (it lasted afew months)

Image

So I can still technically work from home - doing what i love doing - making custom stuff - writing/drawing comics
And I got about 300+ people on a mailing list wanting a copy of this comic

So I know its going to sell and be enjoyed:)

I'll be publishing it when i'm ready thru www.Lulu.com

Anybody that wants to work on it with me will obviously get something from the proceeds:)

Did someone say proceeds!

:P

What kind of help do you need? I'm not sure I could offer anything you can't already do yourself, which is unbelievable considering the freaky eye thing :o

Yeah people keep thinking its unbelieveable
That i'm absolutely fine that theres nothing wrong with me
Until i step outside into bright light - if its not overcast (luckily Scotland is most of the time)

Then i'm tripping about and banging into things - its just embarrassing and cos of the shades and hoody - folk think i'm a junky

What can you do?

Anything you can think of Doc

For example

You can help design characters for the strip if you want ?
You can pose your customs - take pics and help me plan out a strip even?
Especially if theres a group pic or fight sequence
Can you guest draw from a comicbook script?
Or even do just a one off pinup?
Would you like to guest write an episode?

I'm sure there all kinds of other hints, suggestions and advice you can give me -
so that the comicstrips more fine tooled for general release
I'm one of these guys that like as much feedback as possible to make the best product possible...

And seeing your customs doc - i really think you can help me make some better deadeye customs and give me some hints how to improve them or what figure you think would best for the character i'm making

In fact all you guys can

Pitch in whatever you feel - i got even some of the local schoolkids involved in doing gallery pictures for it :D

I stumble around in the sunlight too, but that's because it burns so much :P

That figure looks gorgeous already! And it's poseable to boot, right!? I don't know much about Japanese history, so I'd de-rail the comic's plot-train pretty quickly! I used to be able to draw pretty well, I'll try a pin-up. It won't be anywhere near as awesome as those up there but I'll try.

I could definately use my figs to help you story-board some complex scenes and make some new character designs. I could proof-read stuff? Hah, I don't know, but I'll be sure to comment and suggest as you progress!

Yeah we both burn up like Nic Cage as GhostRider - Your skin and my peepers hahaha

Thanks for saying the figure looks gorgeous already - I'm very honored and happy that you can see whats its going

yeah about 48 - 50 points of articulation (i'll have a recount) - moving fingers, mutilple joint turns on the arms and two point pinges on the feet with rocker joints - even a moveable jaw to open and shut at one point
Until i had to set the jaw immobile after one of the armature wires broke inside the latex

I'm trying to get a look finalised for his shoulder armour where the japanese sunblast is around his shoulders but its armoured - from the top down view it looks like the eye symbol in my avvy :)

And I'm going to go for a kneepad /greave look - so I think an Onslaught series ML Pyro might have the parts i need

And that sounds wonderful you can help me block out a strip with pics of your figures. would like to draw a pin up or cover? And would just plain pitch in

Thanks very much Doc :D

Jeez - yeah that wouldnt be my kinda place at all that and the fact i got enough Latter Day Saints dudes knocking on my door in Scotland as it is - and always at the worst times, bath-time, wife-time, sleeping in from a party-night before time,

Thanks - its been an uphill struggle for sure - other events happen inbetween like having a family - and you just have to grit the teeth and get on with it - hoping that things work out

And thanks for that last you there said about going to be an awesome addition - i really hope so:)
