Painting Errors: collectable or expendable?

Well, I haven't yet begun customizing just yet (I've got a lot of my plate right now, but I'm currently restoring an Ecto-1 from Kenner, as I've mentioned in the customizing questions forum). Well, I picked up from Family Dollar 2 copies of the Parker Selfridge figure from the Avatar line, one with the intention to open and customize, the other to keep in package as a collectable (possibly for Trade. I haven't decided on that yet). Well, one of the two figures has a bit of a paint error. There's a bit of the brown of his hair that has dripped onto the side of his face. Due that error, I had considered on opening that one to use as a custom. However, I began to wonder if figures with such painting errors have any collectable value or if they're more than likely the best candidates for customizing.

I would probably customize him.

That sounds pretty minor, If it was a huge glob covering his face maybe.
Paint errors on figures don't seem to be as popular as say hot wheels or misprints on cards or comics~Probably because most people like to have a figure as perfect as possible.
There is a number of people that do collect oddities though, I dont think the market is very big at all for them though & I dont think the Avatar Figure Line is very popular to begin with.

Just my thoughts, Don't base decision solely on me.
I know it is hard to open stuff like that though with the thought of any collector value lingering in the back of your head. I have a crimson dynamo I cant bring myself to open as the body is missing all black paint apps/wash + A WM Exc Cap that has mis-aligned print on the figure packaging inserts.

Thanks for your inputs, Galactape and Aesthetikz. It's input like what you've provided that is helping me understand. That's why I ask questions like this, because I want to know and be sure. I know that the Avatar toy line probably isn't popular (heck, I bought the two figures with the intention on customizing one of them without any guilt about it). But I'd like to cover my bases nonetheless.
