I rarely come here and when I do it's just to ask questions...hope no one minds that.
I'm in the middle of making a cape for a custom. The cape is double sided with one red side and one blue side and I have the cape design drawn out on both pieces of fabric. When it's completely done I want the thread to be hidden and I want the entire cape to be flat and I have no idea how to make that happen. I sewed a little for Home Ec. in high school but I never took it seriously, and the only thing I really completed was a weird star shaped pillow full of styrofoam beads. If I remember correctly, I took two pieces of fabric, drew the star design on the pieces, put the two pieces through a sewing machine, and right before I sewed it completely I had to leave a small hole on one of the star tips which would allow me to pull the entire star through and then insert the beads. After I pulled the fabric through the hole it looked like an actual pillow, you couldn't see the connecting thread, and it held the beads in with no problems. How can I achieve those results with the cape and then flatten it? If I use the method I described I'd be left with cape that resembles a pillow case and I really can't have that. I also don't want to resort to glueing it as I want the cape to still be able to flow a little.
