What is the Spawn colors

Postby wmh » Mon Oct 14, 2013 12:57 pm

Hello friends, I'm doing my first custom ever.

I have a Spawn III from series 7, with the Owl, axe and the bat, with light up eyes.
I don't like the way it came painted to me, full of misspaint and wrong paint.
So i started to customize him.

I put a matte black on the body, I don't like too much the bright of him, and he's looking awesome with the matte black.

Well, now I need to paint the red details, like the legs spikes, bag and the arms, but I couldn't find what red is that, and what paint to use to keep the most similar to the original red, as I really like the small bright and to keep a difference from the matte black of the body.
I found that maybe a paint named enamel, but can't find what is the red color of it.

I live in Brazil so probably I'll need to import this paint, so if someone know a store that sells too will be very good.

Thanks friends, and sorry for my bad english, if someone was not clear, let me know.

I'd just go with a normal basic red for Spawn. You can darken it up a bit with a black wash afterwards if you want to make him grittier looking. If you want the red to stand out from the matte black, in terms of finish, apply a coat of transparent satin or semi-gloss sealer on top of the red paint, or you could just use a satin or semi-gloss red paint to begin with and kill two birds with one stone.

Thanks Patraw!

Do you recommend any paint to me?

I found some on ebay, like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/200816508039?var=500096396053&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
and this http://www.ebay.com/itm/400580424067?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

They are the more close to the red of Spawn I've found.

Whatever paint you choose just make sure it is an acrylic paint. Do Not use enamel paints, they make the plastic sticky and don't dry correctly.

The best paint IMO is the last link. Privateer Press Formula P3 Paint is the smoothest drying paint there is. I customize only Timmverse figures for the most part. They are very streamlined & you will be able to see every flaw in the paint if it is not applied smoothly. There is no black washing being done to the figure to hide anything. Since I started using P3 my paint apps have been close to perfect.

You ever paint something with Citadel, Model Masters, Tamiya, etc..... & when you are mixing it the paint is all clumpy at the bottom? Happens all the time especially with whites & yellows. Because most companies their paint starts out as a powder. P3 has some kind of process the way they make paint that it starts out as a liquid & no powder is ever added for pigments. I didn't believe it until I started using it. The stuff is amazing & improved the quality of my work so much.

In all honesty, you are not going to get the exact match to the colors especially if the figure just uses the plastic for the coloring. Your best bet is to do a complete repaint if you don't want certain areas that have slight differences in color. It all depends on how nit picky you are.

For your black slightly being more matte than the original color, you can get some paint on varnish from Vallejo (maybe satin) and lightly paint it on to add a little gloss to it.

I also repainted this figure MANY years ago and, if memory serves me right, I believe Apple Barrel made an Antique white that was pretty close to the white used on this figure.
