McFarlane Figures

What's everybody's take on all the McFarlane figure series? I'm not too familiar with them besides the original Spawn figures, but they weren't too popular back then. They seemed to be some of the most detailed action figures I have seen though. Are they cool, suck, too expensive, what?

I have some of the orignal s1 Spawn figures from back in the day. I don't collect them anymore. However, I absolutely love the McFarlane Sports Picks!

I've been a Spawn collector since Series 1 and McFarlane has definetly done an excellent job of raising the bar in the action figure world. The amount of detail he put into figures made everyone else look horrible and in response all the companies started doing better work.

I used to buy all the new McFarlane figures as soon as they hit the shelves, around 2 years ago I realized that I was waisting a lot of money because a lot of the McFarlane lines attract younger collectors. Young collectors do a lot of impulse buying and never have enough money for everything they want. This of course means at some point they either stop buying new things or they start selling old things. :wink:

Check out McFarlane lines on eBay some day, the majority of the time you can get the stuff for lass then half of retail. Not to mention a lot of stores end up clearancing McFarlane products because he comes out with so much so fast. A lot of stores aren't sold out of the old series before the next 2 or 3 items start showing up, somehow they need to make room so say hello to clearance prices and good bye to old figures.

In the long run this could definetly hurt McFarlane but Sportspicks and the otehr new things he's constantly adding will always keep his head above the water.

As far as the actual figures go they look amazing but don't try to play with them. The amount of breakage on McFarlane figures is worse then any other company. Usually because there are so many paint aps that it freezes up the joints on the figures and amazingly dried paint seems to be a lot stronger then the actual plastic the figures are made out of.

Pretty nice to look at but as far as collecting them.
If you keep them MOC, no problem. If you're an opener, be careful as they are very fragile and break easily.

My all-time favorite brand is Stan Winston Creatures. They haven't done any JP toys yet (although I'm sure they will... they just haven't gotten to them yet as they're fairly new) but the others (I own three) are remarkably detail and super-high quality. Stan Winstons figures are definetly great when it comes to detail and I think they're some of the best out there but I don't think they're worth the $15.

I just picked up the Creature Features set for $4.98 each, Mutant Earth are down to $5.98 and Realm of the Claw have finally dropped to $10.98 and still no one is buying them. The only ones that sold out quick at their original price were the Extreme Gargoyles.

As for them being a TRU exclusive I don't think that's true anymore, the first 4 series were but now they've started doing more of a mass market release with the Blood Wolves. Infact the only place I've ever seen the Blood Wolves line was at Media Play.

Those Stan Winston creatures look pretty cool! And their website is real impressive. Those are some sweet graphics. I guess I don't get out to Toys 'R Us enough because I didn't know about these figures. I'll have to go check them out, especially if they are on sale

Since Stan Winston seems to have hijacked the Mcfarlane thread anyway I figured I'd post this here.

Currently Creature Features, Mutant Earth and Realm of the Claw figures have all been clearanced out at $1.98!!! Even if they're still marked at the higher prices just take them to a price checker, odds are they're $1.98 regardless of what they are marked. At my store for instance they were all marked at their previous clearance prices and when one of the guys was doing some shelf labeling they came up at $1.98 so who knows really when they were marked down.

You really can't go wrong for $1.98 though...it took everything I had not to just grab a cart and buy every last one of them

Creatures figures for $2!? The three I own were $19.95 each when I bought them. I'll have to run over to Toys R Us when I get the chance and see what I can find.

Hey Tyro, did you ever find any of these figures? I drove out to another Toys R Us and found two of them last weekend. One from Realm of the Claw and one from Mutant Earth. There's no more stores within my driving range now
