Abducted by Darth Sidious at an early age, Darth Maul trained under him for years. He is a ruthless warrior who relies more on combat skills than the Force. In The "Phantom Menace" Darth Maul went up against Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi and his master, Qui-Gon Jin. He fought Jin for the first time on Tatooine, where the battle was quickly interrupted. He managed to take on both Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon with his double=bladed lightsaber on Naboo. In the end, he killed Qui-Gon before he himself was killed by Obi-Wan. After his death, he made further appearances in the comics. The first time, he was revived by followers of the Sith, with a prosthetic lower half. He fought Darth Vader, only being defeated when Vader stabbed himself through the back to get to Maul. His final canonical appearance was set after Episode VI, where he was a "solid state hologram", which meant he could strike opponents, but couldn't be struck back. He fought Luke Skywalker twice, before Luke used the Force to find a scientist who created Maul, using his brain to power the hologram, Luke destroyed Maul's brain, putting him to rest permanently. He also made several non-canonical appearances in comics.
