Roland Deschain is a fictional character, the main character of Stephen King's The Dark Tower series. He is descended from a long line of "gunslingers", peacekeepers and diplomats. His image and personality are largely inspired by the "Man with No Name" portrayed by Clint Eastwood, though his quest and many of his personal, internal conflicts are drawn from Robert Browning's poem Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came. His surname echoes Shane, the archetypal Western loner hero.
Roland was made using a pretty much just one base figure, some cowboy that was in my fodder box. His head on the other hand was another task all together. I had to go digging to find just the right one. I used my very own technique to give him that sandy, gritty, dirty, Just walked 400 miles through the desert look.
