As part of my latest customs I wanted to do a more comic accurate Dredd figure.
The LCBH is ok but the face is a mix of comic and the film Dredd. At a collectors fair recently I found a DC Direct Saint of Killers figure- the face is a pretty good representation of the artwork by Steve Dillon, plus he had the perfect snarl and chin for a Dredd figure!
So after a lot of cutting, filing, etc, I got the Saint of Killers head cut down enough to fit into a LCBH Dredd helmet and voila- one comic accurate Dredd!
To me this is how Dredd should look and I think this custom ticks the boxes in my opinion.
Also as part of this project- as I was making a comic accurate Dredd- he needed a couple more adjustments before he was complete.
Using the Daystick and Lawgiver Mk2 accessories from the ReAction Dredd figure (which are excellent-shame about the figure!!) I set about giving them both paint jobs to look like their comic counterparts. I removed the big holster from the back of the Dredd figure as he doesn't have one there( don't know why Marvel Toys did that??) and painted his elbow pads green as they were yellow.
Using an off-cut of wire, I attached it to the daystick by drilling a small hole in the handle and threading it through and folded the wire over the figures belt giving the impression that the daystick is attached to the belt.
I had a couple of spare Toybiz War Machine rocket/gun blasts so I thought it would be fun to show Dredd doing what he does best-shooting at things! Drilling out the barrel of the gun and the base of the blast I simply combined the two with a little piece of wire to give the impression that the gun is firing. I wasn't going to paint the blast but I spilt some blue paint on it so I had no choice!
I also thought I would try and create the impression that as Dredd is firing his gun the bullet casings would also be ejecting from the gun- to do this I just cut a few tiny bits of wire, glued them to a clear thin strip of plastic and then bent the strip to try and show the bullets ejecting in a random pattern- I think it worked out ok- see the pics for yourself and let me know what you think!
I hope you guys like my Dredd- any feedback, etc is always welcome- don't forget to check out my Lawmaster custom bike
thanks for looking
