Welcome to the first of my two super secret projects. Course now it's done so it's not super secret. :) Everyone it seems was doing a rework of the Planet Hulk figures, but no one was paying tribute to the other characters in the comic. I really like Korg and so I wanted to make a figure of him. Knowing that he comes to earth with Hulk to rough up the Illuminati and the Fantastic 4 I added my own take on the aggression against those that destroyed the Happy Home of King Hulk and his friends. You can see this in the pictures represented as a Mace made from a dismembered head of "The Thing" and the blood catcher on the Glaive.

I created the Thing's Head Mace with sculpey and baked it hard. I made the Pauldrons (shoulder plates) out of sculpey, and baked them hard. I hinged them with pins, to the shoulders so that the arms can still move and the pauldrons rotate to allow the movement. The Blade of the Glaive is made with sculpey and baked hard while the shaft is made from a broken crossbow bolt. (don't ask!) Instead of using the traditional fur to act as the blood catcher on the glaive, I used a piece of cloth painted up to look like a tattered Fantastic 4 Uniform shirt.

The Head/face was modified using Apoxie sculpt and is just a quick sculpt. The Skirts on his loin-speedo were constructed from a Black Panther cape I sacrificed for the cause. (Lord knows I have plenty!) The belt came from a Planet hulk shield or two.

I used the Planet M "IT" figure because a Thing would not have stood up next to the towering Planet Hulk figure. Besides, I wanted to use something different. Korg has a more dense rock construction than the Thing, and so I thought the "IT" figure represented that well. Besides, it was a good use for an inexpensive figure.

One is The Brood, The Bug guy is Miek (I'm thinking of modding Onslaught)...not too sure about the others. Hope it helps Gee.

lol no prb! well I don't know their names thats why. would you be able to give me the names of his allies? or anyone?
greymonk - Thursday, May 24, 2007
Yes, there are quite a few fans of the Hulk's allies and so there's numerous fan sites devoted to them. Meik is this cool bug-like thingy with a spikey shell and multiple limbs, and there's some humanoid creatures you could get spot on too! I'd do an image search on Google (it's how I got Korg) but do it on a Planet Hulk search. Eventually I started just buying the comics and that helped but I don't want to risk further copyright infringement scanning comic pages for you.
oh and thank you for the compliment! It's always awesome to get a compliment on a fig from a big dawg like you GeeJay!

Thanks again guys, most appreciated!! I have to say the painting was tough, when I was first looking at the "IT" in the raw, I thought, oh this'll be sinch, it's just rock. Then I started painting it and boy was I wrong! What color yellow do I use, what color wash, how much drybrushing and what shades of yellow, blah blah blah. Overall, I learned a very valuable lesson...never underestimate the job at hand. This figure was surprisingly humbling!

Wow, that looks amazing! Great idea for a custom, I'm always excited to see something that has not been done much or any at all. I'm not familiar with this character, but it looks really cool. Excellent sculpting and painting. The added F4 tokens of victory are also a neat idea.

Thanks for the kind words both of you! Planet Hulk is a pretty good read if you get a chance or come by one or five give them a gander. Great concept for the Hulk and one heck of a roller coaster ride! Of course, so many comics, so little time...
Bob-A-Ferret - Tuesday, May 22, 2007
looks good but I haven't read planet hulk so I don't know what to compare it too. But I like the concept and I love that you made the thing head mace. the blood catcher is kind of neat too. So overall 3 thumbs up So says the ferret.
