Like many DCUC collectors, the Sinestro figure left a sour taste in my mouth, so I always wanted a taller version. After reading the great tutorial on the Fwoosh, I was motivated to stop waiting on Mattel to re-release one and take matters into my own hands. The result wasn't 100% accurate, but still much better than the wave 3 "Santa's Lil' Helper" Sinestro.
Although I was inspired by the Lesternessman's custom on the Fwoosh, I kind of went a different route. I liked the bracers on BL Abin Sur and his Abdomen required no adjustments to fit into Sinestro's upper torso, so I used him instead of Deadman. You essentially need only open the upper torso on each figure in order to make the swap and after that everything is "boil 'n pop" parts swapping.
At the time I worked on this custom, about a month ago, I only had Testors' "Insignia Yellow" so I used that to repaint all the yellow portions of the costume. While it's a lighter tone than the orangish yellow used on the stock figure, it's still a bit dark and I would like to eventually repaint him using a mixture of Insignia Yellow & Cadmium Yellow Light, which worked well for my Maash & Halös customs. The other paint choice I made was to paint the forearm bracers and boot trim in gold instead of a metallic yellow which would be closer to the comics. I really like the way the gold looks in person and since costume designs change depending on the artist who draws them in the books, I don't think it's completely inaccurate.
the abin sur bracers look a lot better then the factory bracers.
