"Dr. Steel. The Enforcer...with a ghastly gleaming hand!" This description on the vintage box art accompanies a rendering of Dr. Steel smashing a rock by karate chopping it with his metal hand! So, how can you not love that? Also his whole torso is covered by a giant tattoo of a friggin' dragon!
Dr. Steel looks more like a villain to me, and I believe in the original version of Big Jim he was a villain and fought against Big Jim as he was referenced on the box art as "Big Jim's Greatest Challenge!". But when the P.A.C.K. came along I guess whoever was in charge decided to make him a good guy. Actually, all of the good guys looked like villains in Big Jim's P.A.C.K. except for Big Jim himself, and that's one of the things I really love about the line. Unfortunately, there are 5 guys in the P.A.C.K. and only one villain, so it feels a little lopsided to me. That's why in my alternate reality Mego universe, Dr. Steel has gone back to his roots and fights as a henchman for Zorak, the "Arch Enemy of Big Jim's P.A.CK!". Hey, he can still be the enforcer with a ghastly gleaming hand!
Dr. Steel was made using a Space 1999 Raan head, his pants are CTVT, and his mangled pipe (the original figure came with a pipe that he could karate chop in half) came from a WWE figure. He was painted with Model Masters acryl and sealed with Mod Podge. The tattoo on his torso was done by hand with a sharpie while using the vintage toy as a visual reference. I'm pretty happy with the way he turned out. Thanks for looking!
