If you have ever had the nightmarish pleasure of reading Frank Miller's/Geoff Darrow's masterpiece Hard Boiled, then you would know that to suggest that the lead protagonist, Nixon, takes a serious amount of damage during the course of the story is almost laughable. Because Nixon gets straight chewed up way beyond the scope of "serious amount of damage." I don't want to spoil the story-line for anybody that hasn't read this book yet, but let's just say Nixon is a good candidate for a battle damage contest. Actually, I was working on a Blade Runner Rick Deckard custom with this base Spirit figure when I read about this contest, and then switched gears towards doing a Hard Boiled tribute.
One of the fun things about reading Hard Boiled is looking at all the endless minutiae and detail that Geoff Darrow puts into every panel. I tried to capture that look by flooding my diorama with as much detail as possible. This scene loosely depicts the apex of the comic ie the big fight in the junkyard. There are a lot of elements in this diorama that are lifted straight from Darrow's artwork, such as the junkyard dog, the female blue robot, and the endless amounts of garbage. Also, for some reason, Nixon's blood (of which there is plenty) is always depicted as being black instead of red, and I tried to mimic that aesthetic here, again in pursuit of reference accuracy. I must have dremelled out Nixon a thousand different ways with a thousand different wounds, but it was fun because there is no way to screw up someone being extensively battle damaged!
