Well, if it's a Alt steam punk universe I thought maybe he was gonna say like, he was a torpedo ship pilot? Or maybe this Alt civil war was fought on air ships? Sea of the sky's type thing? Anyway he looks cool, keep it up!

Perhaps one of the hot air balloons used for overlooking the battle field at the time. What seams to be more of a wonder to me is that civil war era doctors figured out that he had lung cancer without any of the equipment needed to do so.
