A savage parallel of the Green Lantern Corps. The Red Lantern Corps is fueled by the light of rage.
Dr. Samuel Foster was consumed by rage during the Afghanistan War on the 12th of April 2004 but he did not become just another Red Lantern that day. Bombed during a routine trip to the city of Kandahar to help treat the sick, Foster was one of the only to survive the brutal bombing. His survival was not due to luck nor meant to be, like the other Hangmen (google Robert Dickering to find out more) before him, Foster too was offered a choice to hunt those who would not repent their evil. Just as he was accepting the offer, a Red ring flew down sensing the young man was consumed with rage at the loss of his fellow soldiers. The unexpected red ring's arrival stopped the shadow from completing his work. While Dr. Samuel Foster has all the powers of the everliving hangman, he is not bound by the Hangman's mission and he can change into the Hangman and remain in that form indefinitely unlike other Hangmen who change at night and return to normal during the day due to his Red Ring protecting his weakness to sunlight.
Powers: Along with his Red Lantern abilities, Dr. Foster has the powers below in his Hangman form.
- Hangman's Noose: He has the ability to summon ropes out of his arms to hang criminals with. Those who are hanged and survive receive scarring around the neck by which he can find them again.
- Fear Projection: He has the power to make frightening images appear around him.
- Darkness Projection: He can summon darkness to kill people or preform other tasks.
- Immortality: Dr. Foster will not age a day now. Neither can he have any illness for longer than a day. More importantly due to his immortality, Dr. Foster is the only Red Lantern who can remove his ring at will
Solar Weakness: Without the red ring, Foster feels intense pain at sunrise and sunset, when he would usually gain and lose his powers.
