This fortress is actually recycled from parts of a model made for my daughter, (my Smallville watching buddy). Of course a 7 year old could find it easy to let a 9" x 12" 2.oz toy go to the dogs. So I assured her that I'd make something new wit it since it was all diagonal cut styrofoam it could be lent to any set up imaginable. First I took a fresh chunk of 2" stryrofoam and cut out a base. Then I worked out the spot where I would hid my lighting rig and work it up to the console.
The light comes from a $1 book light with a long neck on it. I built up a console from two parts of diagonal segments, bored out a channel to pull the light through, matched it to the base rig and pulled it through. Then I capped off the open top of the console with a 1/2" piece of foam and then matched the diagonal cuts to it. On this new cap I started to insert my console recepticals. These are made from white and clear drinking straws. The white ones surround the inner core of clear straws. This helps contain the light but still gives off a nice luminesence.
The outer walls were brought up using remaining diagonal segments and VIOLA!!! The Smallville Crystal Console, complete with steps.
I placed this piece which is probably 9" x 9" x 6" onto my shelf display where I keep my other Superman Movie related customs and it was photo ready. It photographs pretty well in the dark with my iphone HDR.
Thanks for looking!!!
