According to on-line Xenopedia, the Praetor Class is a very large type of Xenomorph, evolving from a Warrior's life cycle. The Praetorian's name originated from the Roman Praetorian Guard - protectors of Roman emperors.
Unlike Warriors and Drones, Praetorians rarely operated outside their
hive because their primary role was to serve and protect their Queen. They are highly evolved and on rare occasions, even have the ability to molt into a Queen if the Queen is killed.
