Custom Type:Action Figure
Toy Series:Marvel Legends
Date Added:July 16, 2012
Base Figure:18" Spiderman
Height:19.00 inches
Completion Time:260.00 hours

His Divine Majesty King Groot the 23rd, Self-Proclaimed Monarch of Planet X, custodian of the branch worlds, ruler of all he shades, flora colossus.
Groot Is an alien known by the Kree as a Floral Colossus, though this species was once thought extinct. He was recruited/apprehended by the Howling Commandos , despite his ability to hide in plain site by looking like a tree. He was later recruited by Starlord as a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy. How Groot got out of SHIELD custody and into Kree space is unknown.
After the disbanding of the GOG, as most were killed, it is revealed Groot is not a monarch but rather a young rebel by his races standards. His best friend and comrade rescues Groot from his home planet. On Planet X Groot was exiled to a far off island where he was being guarded by "The Cyborg Punishment Birds" (Robotic woodpeckers.) During this rescue attempt the robotic woodpeckers can no longer guarantee Groots containment so they unleash the most feared weapon on Planet X, FLAME. Groot is set a blaze right in front of Rocket Racoons eyes.
Groot is a sentient giant Tree from the Planet X. He has super strength due to his enormous size and was mostly used as a heavy assault trooper by the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Groot has shown the ability to create multiple miniature copies of himself known as cuttings which retain all his memories and can be used to resurrect himself if he is destroyed. Cuttings can also germinate other plant life forms so Groot can control them.

Groot can also speak through trees of all forms and has even spoken to Rocket Racoon through holographic trees that were not even real but just made up in Rockets head.

Even though Groot only ever says " I am Groot" It was revealed by the Inhuman Maximus that Groot actually has a very vast intellect. It is never commented that this may also just be due to Maximus's battle with sanity.

Groot was made using the 18" Spider-man as a base figure. I popped the head off. Dremeled off all the lines, careful to keep the muscle structure. I then sanded the figure smooth. I bought the figure missing a thumb so I cut off an Invisible Woman arm. Drilled a hole through the should joint and then one through the hand where the thumb was and inserted the arm. Locked in place with a nail. The entire body was resculpted. The head is a custom sculpt using Sculpey. The hair/branches are Fixit Sculpt over large paper clips inserted into holes drilled in his head.. The skirt is made from a bicycle innertube glued to a vaccuum belt with buckle from a WWE Belt and pouches from a Monkey Man BAF.

Everything was sculpted using Aves Fixit-Sculpt or Sculpey, painted with MM Acrylics, and sealed with Krylon Matte. Thank for looking. Comments are always welcome. Happy voting and I hope you enjoy!

Maybe a tad to big, but extreme KUDOS!
RedRebelCustoms - Monday, August 6, 2012
Posring twice after the contest was over? Wow. Thanks for the KUDOS. I guess after a second look you thought he was too tall? Probably that I posed him with MU figs. The category is ML though. Seeing as Groot is billed as 23 feet tall and sometimes drawn taller, he is actually shy an inch or two from toe to branch top. His height is never specified if it includes branches though as he had none in the Howling Commandos or few as a Marvel Monster. Given he sometimes regrows. His height varies. Originally he was larger than a skyscraper. If I use approximate GOG size, he is anywhere from 2-4 inches too tall for MU scale give or take. Pretty much dead on in ML though, especially if a cutting hadn't finished it's growth cycle.

Congratualtions brother. This figure deserves a win in this contest. It is the absolute best Groot to date. Cheers!

loosecollector- Thanks LC! That Wolvie was the best one yet! I heard the guy you made him for was blown away! Congrats again bro!

Details are the key when creating a custom figure and you have that here! Even the buttons are identical! The head...WOW! BRAVO!
RedRebelCustoms - Friday, July 27, 2012
crea-torX - Thanks for the great compliment! I used several different references but mostly based him off a cover art pic I found.
Bamf67 - Friday, July 27, 2012

RedRebelCustoms - Wednesday, July 25, 2012
Thank you to everyone who voted! This was one of the craziest contest I've seen on any of the forums. Over 70 entries and so many big names and great customizers! I was truly honored to be among the entries, let alone snag a trophy! You are all a part of what has made this site soooo great! Keep up what you're doing realmers!
raybot - Wednesday, July 25, 2012
Sweet Groot! Unbeatable scale and an insane amount of quality sculpt work.
RedRebelCustoms - Wednesday, July 25, 2012
raybot - Holy geez, another compliment from the cream of the crop! The scale is definitely an eye catcher, especially with a base that requires so much work! I appreciate the fantastic comment raybot! I'm stoked to have placed and ecstatic that you liked the sculpting so much!

GrownNerd - Monday, July 23, 2012
My word. Upon looking at that I didn't know that an 18" Spidey existed under there. Props for basically resculpting the entire surface area of that base figure. What a lot of work that must have been. I've tried smoothing out the web lines on one of those before and gave up 3/4 of the way through. Darn impressive custom.
RedRebelCustoms - Wednesday, July 25, 2012
GrownNerd - No, disrespect to anyone I've borrowed ideas from or those who are an obvious influence on my style but GN, I don't think I could honestly say I've attempted to emulate anyone's techniques more. The first real Frankensteining I ever saw was your Great Ape. Not that I could piece them together so stunningly. I've gotten fairly efficient at removing the lines from that base. This is my third custom doing it. LOL! THANK YOU, SIR!
Ole Jade Jaw - Monday, July 23, 2012
Darken them up brother! I obviously have NO idea what the he11 I'm talking about. Congrats buddy!
RedRebelCustoms - Wednesday, July 25, 2012
ole jade jaw - HAHA, Don't change a thing bro! I really shoulda replaced that other light a waaaayyysss back! I had to break out the big muslin for these guys. Just could not get the light right! When I first tried posting them up, my area had an internet outage!! So, the pics were retaken on my phone and everything was typed and entered in from my cell!An absolute pain especially the night of the 15th. Typing alone! The photos definitely suffered though! Thanks man, I still think you shoulda placed higher!
Jin Saotome - Monday, July 23, 2012
Wow totally outdid yourself here!!
RedRebelCustoms - Wednesday, July 25, 2012
Jin Saotome - The Godfather taking time to comment! LOL. I know you have got to be one of the busiest customizers around bro! Answering questions if nothing else. I love all your tutorials bro! I was very pleasantly surprised to see this incredible comment by you! Another humbling comment. Thanks Jin!
Stevid - Monday, July 23, 2012
This is insane! incredible custom!
RedRebelCustoms - Wednesday, July 25, 2012
Stevid - Being one of the first customizers I ever looked up to, getting comments like that from you is always humbling Stevid! Congrats on the high placement and great score as well bro!
fastfreddie - Monday, July 23, 2012
well, I still tossed out 5 stars like crazy because I had so many favorites and just couldn't bear to give out anything less. I knew this one would be a top contender and with the amount of work involved...well man it is inspiring with the the sculpt and especially that base figure. I just know what it involved having worked on mine some
RedRebelCustoms - Wednesday, July 25, 2012
fastfreddie - Thanks again FF! I voted 5 for your works as well! There is just NO HIDING when your fastfreddie!

Congrats on the placement, brother!!!
This custom was one of the most impressive works-of-art in the competition.
I'm so happy to see you that you're in the top 3
RedRebelCustoms - Wednesday, July 25, 2012
NeCrollector - Thanks again bro! You are always there to push us further with those fantastic words of praise!

phineas curmudgeon - Wednesday, July 18, 2012
This may very well be the best Groot that I've seen - to my liking anyway.
I would've gone a different way with the feet, but there's no denying how awesome looking the work you put into it is, so I'm sure that was just a design choice. either way, its outstanding.
RedRebelCustoms - Wednesday, July 25, 2012
phineas curmudgeon - Great to see you posting here bro! Always keeping us customizers honest! Getting such a well wished critique from you is always satisfying! As for the feet... I thought of doing the branch legged version but decided his claw feet look was more practical and easier to pose. If, and I mean IF, I ever tackle Groot again, I will definitely want the branches. Possibly removable. At one point he did have branches growing out but I removed them.
Dr.Zom - Wednesday, July 18, 2012
5 stars! I'd give six if it were possible; love Guardians, love Groot and you hit a GRAND SLAM with the sculpt, paint, scale, EVERYTHING!
RedRebelCustoms - Wednesday, July 25, 2012
terryzom - No extra stars needed bro! 5 is more than enough, lol! I'm a huge GOG fan myself! WOW, that makes the compliment even better and that was a seriously great comment! THANKS BRO!
getsa - Wednesday, July 18, 2012

RedRebelCustoms - Wednesday, July 25, 2012

Ole Jade Jaw - Monday, July 16, 2012
DUDE!! This is just TREMENDOUS. I wish I had the imagination and patience to pull off these intense projects the way you do.
RedRebelCustoms - Wednesday, July 25, 2012
ole jade jaw - Thanks O.J.J. !! I really loved that Hulk you entered! I thought you, FF, Stevid, and CC81 were in the running but never expected mine to be! I figured at least 10 figs were ahead of me!
Nsp - Monday, July 16, 2012
wow this is class dude
RedRebelCustoms - Wednesday, July 25, 2012
mistersims- Man, that is a great comment! Thanks for the applause bro!
TheRealSupaMan - Monday, July 16, 2012
I want this!, completely awesome!
RedRebelCustoms - Wednesday, July 25, 2012
TheRealSupaMan - WOW, thanks bro! Unfortunately I am actually listing this one! Thanks for that comment!
fastfreddie - Monday, July 16, 2012
I'm working with the same base figure and I can really vouch for you on this labor of love! This one really is capturing my heart strings because of that work! I'm gonna give out 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners this time instead of how I normally toss out 5 stars like crazy...this one is possibly in my top 3 for sure, I gotta look at the rest and comment
RedRebelCustoms - Wednesday, July 25, 2012
fastfreddie - Loved the paint apps on your Sentinel! Yeah, this guy is a ton of work but not the first time I've sanded down that base figure. I did the same thing for my sons Giant-Man. That one had a carved head and doll eyes though. Thanks for the vote bro!
massprime - Monday, July 16, 2012
Super job! Thanks for the history also. I didn't know anything about him except his name.
