Batman Beyond is built mostly using a 6" Young Justice Superboy figure (the one in the white costume). The head was sculpted over Superboy's, but about the only thing that remains from Superboy is the mouth. I sculpted over the Superboy hea
d instead of starting from scratch because I wanted that good attachment and articulation it was manufactured with... I didn't want to bother with machining out a new peg hole in a resin casted head this time. The entire Superboy figure was given a dye bath before painting, so that the points of articulation would look like they were all cast in black plastic. It's Superboy's head, shoulders, forearms, upper and lower torso and upper legs and Marvel Legends Mandarin's upper arms, elbows, knees, lower legs and feet and Marvel Legends Wolverine's hands. Quite a bit of sanding and modifying was neccessary to get parts to line up right, but some parts such as Mandarin's upper arms popped into the Superboy shoulder pegs as if they were manufactured for them. The chest was smoothed down using an epoxy resin product called Magic Sculp and a lot of sanding afterwards so that the emblem would lay flat on it. The emblem itself was carefully cut from a rubber vinyl like material. The wings are craft foam; the most suitable material I could find to use. They are held in place with a screw, which allows them to be poseable or removed.
So, there you are... an accurate DC Universe Classics Batman Beyond with double jointed knees and elbows (as well as ankle rockers, articulated toes and wrists), poseable wings and correct height and scale.
The one thing the figure CAN'T do is hold batarangs with the closed fists, but I'm thinking of adding an extra pair of swappable open hands. The Superboy forearms had to be modified to hold the pegs from the Wolverine hands. This was done b
y hollowing out the Superboy wrist pegs... they were originally going to be glued to the Wolverine wrist pegs, but because the Superboy forearms and wrist pegs are both PVC plastic, and the Wolverine wrist pegs are harder ABS plastic, the super glue I used adhered the hollowed out Superboy wrist pegs to the Superboy forearm cavities but wouldn't stick to the Wolverine wrist pegs. So, it's still a snug fit, just not exactly as I planned it.
