Bane - the Dark Knight Rises Custom Action Figure

Custom #:42907
Name:Bane - the Dark Knight Rises
Custom Type:Action Figure
Toy Series:DC Direct
Date Added:September 20, 2012
Base Figure:Neca Chris Redfield - Sam Fisher
Height:7.00 inches
Kept the Mattel boots, belt, and head. Neca Ezio hands, Sam Fisher legs and Chris Redfield torso. Sanded down the shoulders, some straps here and there. Tried to get it as accurate as possible, because I wouldn't change a thing about his look.
If you'll indulge me, how is casting someone like Nathan Jones any different from casting Jeep Swenson? For one, having Swenson didn't make that movie noticeably worse, so just watch him. However, Tom Hardy made Rises way better, having enough physical intimidation to score FOUR unstoppable bruiser roles in his career. It helps when an actor can ACT in a dramatic action movie.
I made a detonator with some fodder and painted him up. He looks sweet on the shelf and he's definitely my new favorite. Thanks for looking at him.

I do have a question though..I can't see a knee joint anywhere. Did you use the entire lower legs of the Mattel movie Bane (from the knee down) and attach them at the knee of the Sam Fisher legs then sculpt over it to hide the differences, or did you do some clever surgery and sculpting to match the lower legs of the Sam Fisher part with the Move Bane boots?

I myself took a cue from Banner/Hulk's creativity and used the Duke Nukem base. I then used a spare Riddick figure for the lower body (yes Banner..I'm going to post the pics It's a mash up of comic book and movie Bane because I like the muscularity and proportion of the comic Bane over Hardy's "UFC" style physicality. I also display it with my Arkham City figures, not my Batman movie figures so I didn't need it to be movie accurate.

Having said all that...Hardy's portrayal (especially though a face mask for the entire movie) was pitch perfect even though he was doing a Sean Connery impersonation with his voice. Hardy swears he based the accent and attitude on an old world bare knuckles, gypsy boxer he researched..the accent is meant to be "Romani" as opposed to comic book Bane's South American aspect. Whatever he used, he did a great job. Oh and hats off to Hans Zimmer for a movie score that was phenomenal also.

Thank you. That is Sam's lower leg, cut above the strap. The boots were glued on cause the knee joints were already so versatile and crumpled the same way it would if he had boots. I saw how a more cartoony bane would've looked with movie gear in those weird promo drawings and I prefer the Rios one I made months ago.

Thanks Redshift. Again..great movie Bane, really nice work.

By the way I saw the Rios based figure you did..nice work there also.
Redshift - Friday, September 21, 2012
Tom rules. And, yes, the Rios Bane was a lot of fun to do. Thanks.

Absolute perfection! You really made the best looking movie accurate Bane. By the way, when I made my Bane custom I mentioned Nathan Jones only because the figure was so tall next to Mattel movie masters Batman. I agree with you that Tom Hardy was phenomenal in the role.
Redshift - Friday, September 21, 2012
Thanks! I saw that your figure was only inspired by the movie, but I hadn't seen many accurate attempts at Tom's look. Maybe now I might, but so much talk of him not being jacked enough can get on my nerves.
The Insane Hatter - Friday, September 21, 2012
Dude, this is unbelievable! Do you take commissions? I'd love to have a Bane figure that actually looks intimidating beside other figures.
