Joseph is a clone of Magneto possessing his magnetic powers. During the "Magneto: Not A Hero" limited series Joseph murdered 40 anti-mutant campaigners while wearing Magneto's costume leaving Magneto to take the blame. To combat the ensuing Magneto Joseph also assembled mutated clones of the Brotherhood of Mutants consisting of Blob, Toad, Mastermind, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch.
