Continuing my series of Thunderbolts characters....Here is Mach IV. I loved the cover of New Thunderbolts #1 and wanted to re-create that version of this guy, but finding the right pieces was difficult, especially the proper base figure. While digging through my fodder box I found Ant-man from the Avengers Animated line and I thought, his helmet would be PERFECT!! So I pulled him out and much to my surprise his limbs extended!! I had this figure for years and never knew that! So by extending his limbs and then using sculpey to fill the gaps in, I now had a 6" tall base figure! The helmet was dremelled down smoother and the wings were added. They came from some Robin figure from the Batman movies I believe. They fold back to give the impression he has powered down. I wanted something that actually folded down and would have some sort of spring action to pop them up into place, but I couldn't find anything like that, so I settled on these. Like Swordsman, Mach IV's helmet is removable. I really like this feature but I just don't know why.
The paint scheme is based on the picture of him on the cover of New Thunderbolts #1. That picture shows him with three distinct colours on his costume, silver, dark blue, and a gun metal grey but in later issues they showed the suit only in 2 colours??? I guess the colorists got lazy???
Anyway, while this figure looks okay, I have since found a base figure that is even better than this one and hope to re-create this character at some point in the near future. Stay tuned.............. :)
