For this live action shot, a clear plastic bottle with the top cut off was used and the figure straddled over the opening, balanced on the rim. Dangling the figure from a string was no good, as it was impossible to keep it still lol. The photo was then downloaded into the computer and the clear bottle digitally removed by photoshop, leaving the figure untouched and as if suspended by itself. Used a process known as overlapping (taking background sections of the photo with the crop tool and overlapping the area where the bottle was then smudging it a bit to create an effect like movement).
The photograph was taken in low light, no flash, and with a high speed aperture, producing a very stark contrast, leaving the colors crisp. No amount of steady hands can take this shot, as the aperture open & closed within 1/30th of a second, so a tripod was used. The figure was set-up near a corner of a wall. The black area being one side of the wall covered in shadows and the blue being the color of the background wall where the natural light hit. All these details combined with a bit of luck managed to make a regular figure become animated with a surreal-looking effect. Thanks for checking it out!
