This is a figure of my Half-Elf Paladin of Ioun from my home D&D Campaign. I had been working on him for some time, but when I saw the "Way of the Blade" competition I decided to go for it. With holidays, it was difficult getting him done in time for that competition, but thought he would be a perfect fit for this competition. I love the DC Universe figure sculpt and have used it a number of times for other customs - that said, I covered most of it up on this one.
The base figure is DC Universe's Aquaman in Water Camo. I didn't bother swapping any parts of the figure out - I just sculpted on. The armor from head-to-toe is custom sculpted in Apoxie (pauldrons, breastplate with holy symbol, chainmail, greaves, bracers, the lot). Even the waist cloak was sculpted in Apoxie, then used as a master for a silicone mold to cast in a flexible resin. This allows the cloak to be attached securely while still being able to move around the figure when it is articulated (I will submit a tutorial in the near future on the whole process). The waist cloak has a little more flex than a vinyl cape, but works really well. Some leather pieces off of the Despero BAF armor was used for the belt of the waist cloak (the leather straps on the armor are made from Apoxie).
The back cloak is made from the Red Tornado DC Universe figure's cape - the cowl was cut off, and a lowered hood was sculpted in Apoxie in its place. The sword was also sculpted out of Apoxie, while the shield is from the Wonder Woman DC Universe figure. The shield was modified to have the appearance of a wooden reinforced interior, while the front was modified to have the appearance of a stretched leather inlay.
