Brainiac!!

After seeing the costume designs for Man of Steel coming up, I noticed that Zod's armor is very reminiscent of H.R. Giger's work. Of course, I immediately wanted to see how bad ass I could make a Brainiac in a similar style.

I had bought that Prometheus 2-pack a while back, wanting to use the tentacles for a future custom (keep yer eyes peeled kiddies!). This one ended up being a REAL Frankenstein mix of parts:

I used the Engineer body, and cut up the skirt from a Stargate figure. I also used the head from a Dc Direct JUSTICE Lex Luthor, and used round jewelry chain links to make the 'plugs' on Brainiac's head.

Backpack is made up of Spawn parts and DC Collectibles Mr. Freeze, and the posable 'utility arms' on his back came from a Matrix Sentinel. The bionic arm and boots came from a Neca Bionic Commando figure, while the claw and extendable tentacle came from a Spider-Man 2 Movie Doc Ock. Oh, and his right fore-arm & hand came from a Neca Bulletstorm figure. Electricity blast comes from a FF movie Dr Doom.

You actually made Braniac look bad@$$ and cool! Excellent work!
Heroes Assembled Customs - Sunday, May 5, 2013
Thanks man. I really tried to incorporate pieces of his New 52 (bug legs!), Alex Ross/Justice and New Krypton storyline incarnations. I also wanted to give him an almost Victorian feel with the 'topcoat' look. Thanks for looking and the feedback!

This custom is very.....busy! And it's awesome!
Heroes Assembled Customs - Tuesday, April 30, 2013
I wanted it to have a lot of moving parts, to make it more fun and stand out. Brainiac has been done and re-done SO many times, (comics, movies, animation, etc..) I wanted to make a concept that I could see working on the big screen. That mean more texture, more details, and more actual 'creepiness'.

Those spider-arms on his back for example:

Are they needed? No, not really. BUT, they'd be creepy as hell if someone was laying on his 'operating table', with Brainiac looking the opposite way. The victim tries to get free and escape un-noticed, but those arms unfold, springing to life and grabbing the victim before that can get the chance!

Maybe a little busy, but sure was fun to build!

JeddTheJedi - Tuesday, April 30, 2013
I would be pleased as punch if this is how Brainiac will look in Snyder's Superman series. Ingenious idea to use the Engineer as a base figure, I really like how you've achieved the "organic alien biotech" look that really captures the essence of Brainiac.
Heroes Assembled Customs - Tuesday, April 30, 2013
Thanks! I really wanted him to look like he wouldn't think twice about disssecting his 'specimens', looking at them like a human scientist would an insect. I wanted him to look cold, clinical, alien, but still relatable as a humanoid. Hope I achieved that!
JeddTheJedi - Wednesday, May 1, 2013
I think you totally did. I really like the idea of Brainiac looking at human beings as an entomologist might look at an insect, that's a chilling character trait and one that really is put across in your design.
