Several companies have come out with the Predalien figure, modeled after the creature from the movie AVP: Requiem. From Neca to Narin, even Sideshow Toys has a version, but the best has to be from Tokyo based company FuRyu Corps.
This figure is solid, and the sculpt work on it really brings out the ferocity and presence of this beast. Having burst from a Predator, it makes sense that this particular type of Alien would share physical characteristics of the host.
On the Furyu, the Predalien's muscular size is considerably larger than the ones made by the other companies. It's thicker in mass, and translates the Predator warrior physique stunningly, making the Neca Predalien seem like a poodle by comparison.
Furyu released two versions of this Predalien - regular Predator color and matte black. Chose the black one for base and repainted with bronze hi-lites, then sealed with a gloss finish. The braids were repositioned - frilled out, to show just how pissed it really is. They were glued into position, once dried, sculpt work to secure them. The head dome was already painted black, so had to open it up and use a type of industrial paint remover called Goop to strip the color - giving the clear dome a bio-mechanical quality and reveal more of its skull features underneath.
Some of the diehard Alien fans out there have expressed their disappointment in the Predalien's design. They feel that certain aspects of the creature contradict the original concept of the Alien and perhaps the producers were taking too much of an artistic license just for the sake of cramming it into the movie (kk, growing to a full adult within minutes on the Pred ship was a li'l ridiculous. And impregnating pregnant women with Alien embryos via throat dump is equally inane).
Well, whether one likes it or not, it's good to cultivate a personal preference for things. So have at it, and thanks for checking it out.
