The Ring was the film that actually got me into being a fan of horror. There were just so many "holy s**t" moments and unnerving imagery in it that I realized how fascinated I was by being scared. It effectively has kicked off a love of the genre that's lasted for more than ten years. As such, even though I've built up a tolerance to the scares in the series, and that I've found much better horror movies since, The Ring has always been my favorite, due to these circumstances.
Unlike most people, I like The Ring and Ring/Ringu (the Japanese original) more or less equally. Both movies have their strengths and weaknesses and have their moments which stand out for me. If I were forced to choose though, I'd probably go with Sadako over Samara for favorite antagonist.
Sadako is a Queen Amidala figure painted white, and then with various washes of black, gray, and more white to get that filthy look on her nightgown. Hands are a sickly undead gray. Her hair comes from Psylocke, painted black.
