FINALLY!!! I finally feel like I've been able to make the ultimate Cavill MAN OF STEEL figure. The customer I made this for has been an absolute pleasure to work with and I look forward to doing many more customs for him. This uses my usual HML Constrictor base but has the MM Cavill head which is an amazing likeness once you get some better paint apps on it. The entire suit is sculpted with Aves Apoxie Sculpt and then painted with acrylics. Once I had the actual Movie Masters figure in hand, it was much easier to know all the details of the suit. That didn't make it any easier to sculpt, but it served as THE perfect guide.
To achieve the right colors to match the movie look, I first base coated the entire suit with a flat black and then drybrushed a slightly glossy dark aquamarine/teal which gave it just the right balance of navy and true blue. The silver and gold were lightly drybrushed to give it that burnished, brushed look. For the "S" I just painted the golds...well, gold :) but for the red, I painted that area maroon first and then drybrushed on a mix of metallic red and true red to give it just a little sheen like we see in the real suit. The boots are marron with a very light red drybrush.
As for the cape, we both wanted to give the figure the ability to really pose, so while the MM cape is amazing, we felt the cloth cape with sculpted shoulder folds would work best. I haven't tried to add wires to capes yet, so I didn't go that route this time, but I was able to blend the sculpt into the cape ALMOST seamlessly.
And that's about it. I felt it was appropriate to post this one today on MAN OF STEEL day! On Monday, I'll likely be posting TWO Christopher Reeve figures: One in the traditional suit and yes, one of Reeve in the Cavill suit! After that, I think I have a Godfall Superman coming up in a few weeks, but from there on, it's probably gonna be more BATMAN. Into the Court of Owls and Professor Pyg, as well as Batman Incorporated.
Thanks for looking! Look forward to reading any comments, crits, etc!
