Ludo is my favorite character from Jim Henson's cult classic, Labyrinth from 1986. Despite his appearance (and the reputation that precedes most Night Trolls), Ludo is actually docile and playful. His brute strength, loyalty and ability to summon and manipulate stone (rocks and boulders respond to his call) make him a valuable asset to Sarah, on her quest through the Labyrinth. Conceptualized by Brian Froud and brilliantly brought to life by the Henson crew, Ludo stands as one of the most believable "Body Muppets" on film.

I've been thinking about making this figure way back when the first Monster's Inc. movie came out. Always thought a Sully base would work great but never got around to buying one. When the new toys hit shelves to promote the sequel, this was a no brainer.

Ludo's head is scratch sculpted with craft foam ears for flexibility. Head connects with a magnet ball joint for lots of posing. Hands were modified from 3 fingers to 2 with sculpted knuckle detail. Toes were sculpted over existing claws. Also sculpted a belly on front and a fur tuft on back to cover where Sully's spines were removed.

Wow, here's a custom of a character I never though I'd see (maybe NECA will tackle him someday, seeing as how they've made other Labyrinth figures). You did an outstanding job on him, but it also makes me wonder how the figure would have looked with actual faux hair, rather than sculpted fur . . .

That's so beautiful that it actually makes me happy because I think of him, he looks that good!
Outstanding and well deserved.

Spensieri - Sunday, June 16, 2013
This is freaking AMAZING! How did you sculpt that head? The choice of body was perfect too. I am really amazed with how this turned out. You've brought a piece of my childhood to life!
Hammer of the Gods - Sunday, June 16, 2013
I'm actually really proud of the head because it was all done in one sitting and I got the likeness right on the first try. In hindsight, I wish I would have paused to make a mold of it in case I want to make another version down the line.

WOW, WOW, WOW! I'm not joking....this is one of the most wonderful works I've seen at Figure Realm. Labyrinth is my favorite movie since I was a little kid and Ludo is the best! I'm crying here...

That is the awesome-ist thing I've seen all day, and I work in a magic-land studio of awesome.

That is so cool. That character is a great design, and so well done. Bravo. Love the work you did there, with the flexible ears and ... magnet-ball-joint? Where do you get one of those? I'm just starting to use magnets and they're really cool. That kind of detail to doing it right is fantastic. The sculpt work is impeccable.
Hammer of the Gods - Friday, June 14, 2013
I want to work where you work. I used a metal ball that was half embedded in the sculpted area between the figures shoulders. Then in the head, I used some rare earth magnets (small but powerful - get mine at Radio Shack). I've found having some rubber between the metal and magnet (I use tiny o-rings) give enough friction that the parts don't slide around freely - you pose 'em and they stay that way till posed again.

This has just made my day Great character exceptional custom, pleeease tell me you'll be doing a sir Didimus to go with him and the neca hoggle I'm sure you already own
Hammer of the Gods - Friday, June 14, 2013
I'm thinking hard about how to best do Didimus - it could happen. I like the Neca Hoggle but he is out of scale with Ludo who is a perfect fit with 3 3/4 figures. I'll likely do him to at some point. This is a bit of a sickness.
Darththomas - Saturday, June 15, 2013
How about salacious crumb?, Jabba's pet from starwars. Maybe a little small and lacking in articulation but a good starting point.
Hammer of the Gods - Saturday, June 15, 2013
Indeed, SC would be a great start. Good looking out Bro - I don't think I'd have thought of that on my own.
Hammer of the Gods - Wednesday, July 10, 2013
Thought you'd like to know I just posted Sir Didymus and Ambrosious (Hoggle too). Anxious to hear your thoughts man.
