Bust out the reptile repellent, coz Spidey's got himself one scaly situation! The Lizard has always been a personal fav, hardwired into our reptile brains, so wanted to go full throttle on this one and give ol webhead a real sizable menace to deal with.
Upper body Mcfarlane Horrid, claws from a Resident Evil Hunter, with a Papo T-Rex head. Kaiyodo Devilman legs with Mcfarlane Thamuz feet, & added Hasbro Alien tail. The clear red beads for the eyes gives it some extra realism, and the lab coat was put together using Capt. Jack Sparrow coat tails & partial Spawn capes, resculpted. Snipped a headshot from a magazine and used it for Dr. Connors ID badge.
Sculpting scales is a tad trickier than sculpting fur (but don't let that stop you from trying it!). To achieve different sized scales, first cover the intended surface area with a thin layer of apoxie. Allow for the apoxie to dry a bit - this will yield smoother results and better definition. Using the open end of a straw, create larger scales on the main area of the body, and smaller scales can be added just by using a q-tip with the cotton cut-off. The trick is to get the scales in descending order without overlapping or leaving big gaps in-between. Of course there are other techniques, but whatever way works the cleanest and gives the most convincing effect, deserves that Klondike bar! Spidey kebobs, anyone?
