THUNDERSTRIKE Marvel Select Scale Custom Action Figure

Custom #:53343
Name:THUNDERSTRIKE Marvel Select Scale
Custom Type:Action Figure
Toy Series:Marvel Select
Date Added:September 4, 2013
Base Figure:wwe deluxe edge
Height:7.50 inches
Completion Time:48.00 hours
Articulation:26 points
FIGURE- wwe deluxe edge, eomer head, ktbash LOTR parts sor boots, sculpted muscles and innner vest.

MACE- putty for the head; inner ball point pen, masking tape and chain necklace for the shaft

Absolute requirements for a THUNDERSTRIKE CUSTOM FIG are the follwing:
1. cut off gloves for left hand (he is left handed)
2. earing on left ear (prefereably lightning designed)
3. Motorcyle vest and Motorcycle boots - like the earing, this was thought of as cool back in the 90s. He was originally designed for this purpose.
4. MACE! its not Thor's hammer!
- Mace's head size should only be slightly bigger than his closed fist.
- shaft should be a hand longer than Mjolnir's
- chain should not be oversized

I loved this character since the 90s. The dialogue was badly written. but the story of Eric Masterson, was so grounded and realistic that even parents can relate to it.

Realism was my main goal when I made Thunder Strike. his character is far more complex and more grounded than Thor. Too bad he's underrated.

Thank you for your kind words

I try to keep my customs looking semi-realistic without sacrificing character dynamics

Absolutely AWESOME figure!!!! This is a Masterpiece of Art & Detail. He Looks Real!!!! Nice work Dude!
jessecuster - Sunday, September 8, 2013
"He looks real!"

wow this is one compliment I wasn't expecting. thanks bro!

my weakness in customizing is that I don't feel comfortable making over-the-top-comic-book style proportioned figures. a little exaggeration is enough for me to make the figure look interesting. I would've stuck to kit-bashing or just buy toys off the shelf, if I was satisfied with comic book proportioned toys. it's actually a barrier that has stopped me from accepting commissions to do comic book accurate figures.

I'm so happy to know that my work is totally appreciated. Thunderstrike may not be appealling . but I'm happy that my work is. hahaha
Thanks man!

I've been studying this masterpiece for the past 20 minutes, dude, and I gotta say it's perfect! I'm loving the flesh tones...SUPERB! The paint job is perfect! I truly appreciate your attention to detail, even down to his earring....WOW!!! Much respect, brotha!
jessecuster - Friday, September 6, 2013
thanks man! Glad you noticed the small things. Not too many people have an eye for detail. others would just look at the figure as whole.

It's not often u post up customs, but when u do boy, do u make it COUNT! Stellar sculpts n paints, meng! Onto your subject, Thunderstrike: 1993 I was 12, and I had randomly bought Thor 459 "Who Should Hold This Hammer?" Thor had returned & Masterson had to give Mjolnir back then he's rewarded by Odin w/his own mace! I remember the massive delays for Thunderstrike #1...and yes, the dialog and characters like "Sangre"(ugh.) made me drop this book after the 3rd issue. Still, this character always takes me back to that time- gr8 work again, Senor.
jessecuster - Thursday, September 5, 2013
THUNDERSTRIKE!!! Thanks REdmist! I really apreciate it!

it would really take so much will power to look pass the awful 90s pop fashion and the awful corny lines. Back in 1993 Image comics earned so much from creating new characters, and by revolutionizing the use of tech in coloring their books. DC and Dark horse, expanded their market by hiring novelists and better writers for mature audiences. Marvel... only had the X-MEN.

Thunderstrike didn't have its own identity. The visuals, the art work, the storytelling were so 80s. Marvel was so clueless as to how they'd sell this book. It wasn't visually stunning to attract the youth. The writing was so bad, that mature readers would actually make an effort to avoid it. I wish Marvel had gone all the way into making it a visual medium for modern literature. It worked on Daredevil and Batman back in 1986 when Frank Miller wrote "Born Again" and "Dark Knight Returns". "Watchmen" was an instant cult classic, when DC took a chance on Moore. Neil Gaiman's "Sandman" was an instant hit, and had earned respect in LITERATURE. Thunderstrike, as a character, really wasn't appealing to children or teenagers to begin with. Maybe the writer was hoping that he could reach out to kids by speaking their language.

Nevertheless it was Mastersons flaws (both as a class-B hero and a mortal), and his everyday struggle with life that kept me interested. The book, like the character, had heart. Thunderstrike , like the writer, never gave up until the end.

What can I say brother. We go way back and I look up to your skills.
jessecuster - Thursday, September 5, 2013

yeah brother waaaay way back when both of us were new at this hobby. More than a decade actually. I wish I had your patience and your desire to keep improving. Dude, you set the bar now. And I'm proud to be your countryman.

Thanks for the kind words Dave!

LC knows I consider him one of the TRUE masters here in the Realm.

BUT, just from the small sampling of your work I've seen today, you are definitely one of the guys near that level! I don't waste words, so please consider this a compliment...
jessecuster - Tuesday, December 2, 2014

Thanks Johnny ! Sorry late reply. Just saw your comment. Nice to know I'm "near" Dave's (Loosecollector) level. Customizers in our country are proud to have him bearing our flag . I personally think he's the most successful in this business

pulpyfiction - Thursday, September 5, 2013
another custer classic! I think this is another amazing example of your treatment in skin tones on the face. Sideshow quality work, at a much smaller scale, making it a hell of a lot more impressive!
jessecuster - Thursday, September 5, 2013
Hey man! glad to hear from you! thanks again for admiring my painting skills. I've been asks a lot, if I use airbrush to paint skin tones. Airbrush might work on 12" figs. But for smaller scaled figures, there's know way you can get the same effect.... I could be wrong of course. but from what I noticed, figs look factory made and mass produced when flesh tones are so evenly painted.
firefly - Thursday, September 5, 2013
WOW! nice base great figure! galing idol!
jessecuster - Thursday, September 5, 2013
Thanks bro! yeah the WWE figure was the perfect base frame for a Marvel Select scale fig that looks like he's 6ft. 6 inches, standing next to other MS figs.

The base fig was too chunky though. the whole armwas so huge, it had to dremmel it down and sculp over it. The deltoids on the other hand, were too small in proportion to the figures height. I also sculpted over it, to make it bigger. The sholulder socket's whole also had to be bigger to accomodate the added volume in the deltoid muscle.

fitzjedi - Thursday, September 5, 2013
This is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!! And I don't even LIKE Thunderstrike!, LOL! Seriously--nicely done on this--he looks AMAZING!!
jessecuster - Thursday, September 5, 2013
hahaha thanks man! if you'd read the comicbook you'd definitely laugh at how the series was written, and drawn-retro 90s style.
The Watcher - Wednesday, September 4, 2013
Whoa! This is pretty much perfect. Great job!
jessecuster - Wednesday, September 4, 2013

CAb00se - Wednesday, September 4, 2013
damn dude, he turned out awesome! what is that jacket from? very nice work!!
jessecuster - Wednesday, September 4, 2013
oh yeah Thunderstrike's jacket:

- Marvel Select Punisher trench coat, cut at the waist
- zipper teeth are painted cardboard cut-outs
- jacket belt from Lord of the Rings Aragon horse set.
- jacket buttons are sculpted on
jessecuster - Wednesday, September 4, 2013
Glad you liked it bro. I tried to make it the best Thunderstrike custom, by being true to the elements of its original design.

Though , being comic book accurate based on 2D designs don't always translate well whence into figures . I added a few of touches of my own
jessecuster - Wednesday, September 4, 2013
thanks guys! I tried staying true and faithful to being comic book accurate. just added a few intricate details to the boots, wrist bands , and the dark blue top. I really this love this character.

Thunderstrike should've been written by a better writer. The storyline was obviously made for mature readers. but it ended up being written for a younger audience. Story telling and dialogues were written to sugar coat reality. Marvel should've done what DC comics did at the time- treated readers with maturity
AREZ - Wednesday, September 4, 2013
