Venom Spawn (v.1) Custom Action Figure

Custom #:5395
Name:Venom Spawn (v.1)
Custom Type:Action Figure
Toy Series:Spawn
Creator:N TT
Date Added:December 16, 2007
Base Figure:Spawn i. 23
Height:9.50 inches
Venom was slimming around in need of a new host when he saw Spawn, walking out of a 7-11 convenience store, 4 in the morning, like it was nothing, with a bucket of nails and a bottle of Jack Daniel's scrunched in a paper bag, tucked under his arm. Spawn embodied all that Venom craved - jealousy, rage, violence and vengeance! Everything this symbiote from outer space could hope for and now he had found his ultimate soul mate! Immediately he followed Spawn, slurking through sewer drains and building crevices until finally ascending to the cathedral spires where Spawn sulked contemplating with the rock gargoyles. Venom didn't hesitate and like a cottonmouth on a marsupial, dove right in, swallowing Spawn into the darkness maw! Venom surged with the new found power, thriving off the hate and anguish. Spawn made sure he saw to that. If Venom wanted so badly to bite a taste of hell, so be it, he was going to make sure this putrid black slim experienced the true meaning of darkness! But Venom proved to be a formidable foe. His alien protoplasm seemed resilient, hungry almost, to Spawn's fury and Venom began to consume him from the inside. The more enraged Spawn became, the more it fueled Venom's wrath! In a last ditch to extrapolate himself, Spawn exploded, splattering pieces of Venom debris in all directions. Slowly collecting himself from the shadows, Spawn rematerialized, the green glow redeemed in his eyes now that all traces of that black sludge was... gone. So he thought, but it was already too late, as Venom's jaws began to form around Spawn's mouth, and darkness was the last thing he saw.

This custom had its share of difficulties, like trying to balance the arms to look animated but still be able to fit together well on top of the Spawn figure without looking lopsided. But the hardest part was trying to attach one of the fangs around Spawn's mouth. All the other teeth (toothpick tips) glued on without a fight but for some reason, the 4th fang from the left, just wouldn't adhere and kept falling off! Over application of glue in that one area eventually made it non-sticky. So the hair pulling started and days turned into weeks, tried to get back at it again but this time, left the tooth for last. Sorted out all the hands to go where, following a blast radius effect coming from the figure.
The 3 big extended arms were from a Venom accessory piece and was modified to create a shape like a claw around Spawn. Most of the sculpt work was done around the base to reinforce the structure and mend any seams. Tried to find mostly outstretched hands and took arms from a toy octopus for extra tendrils. Added some tiny hands from Alien fodder to build up the Venom explosion on the Spawn body. These 2-D pictures, and with everything being black in color, obscures much of the detail. Basically, the symbiotic plasma, in the shape of hands, is spewing from Spawn's body. And chains, hardened with superglue, have been added to fuel this illusion of cataclysm. The Venom head was taken from the original figure and sculpted to a McFarlane bendy-demon torso located just above Spawn's shoulders. Pretty much, the only articulation the statue has are Spawn's head and two arms which swivels. Venom, being the bendy, can creep around up there all he wants.
The next attempt at this custom will be the next stage in metamorphosis. A fully transformed Venom-Spawn, where we see clearly the outcome of that takedown match! Back in black and exploiting the awesomeness of both characters in one!
Had a lot of fun & frustration with this piece, glad to share it here in the Realm!
