In Norse mythology, Valkyries are the mythic female figures that bring warriors who died in battle to the realm of Valhalla. Once there, the fallen warriors will eat, drink and prepare for the final apocalyptic battle known as Ragnarok.
Marvel comics also has a Valkyrie character, Brunnhilde. She has been a member of the team of heroes known as The Defenders and rode upon a flying horse named Aragorn. She took over the reins of this soaring steed after the Black Knight. Aragorn also happens to resemble another creature of myth, the winged horse Pegasus from Greek mythology.
Now here’s the recipe for both.
Valkyrie: It’s a Battleground Teela. I really like how this Masters of the Universe female figure fits in scale with some Marvel Legends and DC Direct figures. Her hair, cape, spear, sword, and scabbard are all from the Marvel Legends Valkyrie. The blade of the sword was painted silver. Her outfit was repainted with black, brown and some dry brushing with silver. I know it’s not exactly how Valkyrie’s outfit is in the comics. It’s a variation, one that shows more skin.
Aragorn: This is a Swiftwind with a bridle from a different toy horse. The bridle, neck armor, and saddle were painted brown and gold. Each hoof was painted light grey. The wings, mane and tail were painted with layers of black, different shades of grey and finally white.
Even though they are Marvel comics based characters, they still have roots in Norse and Greek mythologies, making them an ideal entry for the Mythic Might customs contest.
Thank you all for taking a look. Let me know what you think of this beauty and her beast.
Thanks to everyone who voted and commented on Valkyrie and Aragorn during the Mythic Might contest!
