A bizarre combination of ostrich and elephant, these creatures can be encountered in Nintendo/Brownie Brown/HAL Laboratory's 2006 Mother 3 Gameboy Advance roleplaying video game. While said title was never officially released outside of Japan, the ROM received an English fan translation, courtesy of Starmen, in 2008. Ostrelephant [駝鳥象 (Dachou Zou), literally "Ostrich Elephant", in the original Japanese version] is just one example of the many strange animal amalgams that the game's protagonists will have to contend with throughout their adventures.
This particular critter has been on my "to make" list for quite a while, and the Comic Fusion II contest was the perfect excuse to "git 'er done". The Ostrelephant's design is simple, but brilliant--I've never even played the game it's from, but, the monster made a strong impression on me just browsing through Mother 3 sprite sheets. I like how the elephant's face looks malicious, but the ostrich is bored/indifferent--something tells me that the two of them seldom see eye-to-eye. The creature also seems like something that would show up in one of Winnie the Pooh's zany Heffalump and Woozle nightmares. This figurine was modeled, completely from scratch, in a couple of days, and finished with acrylic paint.
