Introducing: the X-59 STARHAMMER Ray Gun, the latest in molecular disrupters for the discerning spacefarer.

Inspired by Weta’s awesome ray guns but unable to afford one due to skyrocketing fuel prices, I set out to build my own scavenged/found-parts sidearm. The STARHAMMER is the product of multiple trips to local hardware and craft stores and about 30 hrs of garage engineering. The design is original but owes a lot to Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon, the Steampunk movement and of course the brilliant Greg Broadmore. I tried to modify the existing parts to elaborate and disguise them but if you look hard enough, you can identify the original parts used (which is fine). I’ve always been fascinated with how the props in the original Star Wars films were built from existing items they cobbled together – so I guess you could ad those props to the pile of inspirational sources. As time and parts permit, I hope to build more ray guns before the imminent invasion.

I'll have to look into that - not familiar with how his gun looks but I'll Google right now. Does his gun have a name?

JunkPunk,
The vial is filled with windex mixed with food coloring to get the right shade of blue. It looks really light in the pics but is actually a shade or two deeper.
I'm thinking of repainting this gun and starting with a dark brown base and a darker, more gun metal dry brush. That might give it more of the antique patina I was trying to get.
I think an accesory mod off would be cool.

It's been a day, and I'm still geeking over this gun. What did you use as the liquid vial?
I normally mod out Nerf guns, but I two have a couple boken things that I see will now make awesome ray guns.
This could be a fun side competition in the future. An accessory mod-off.

There's like 4 of us approving stuff now, so if anything gets rejected...I'm not at fault
Oh yeah, I meant "I have a broken drill I could probably use" in that other post

Dr. Nightmare, I painted the gun with a base of satin black spray and them dry brushed flat alluminum acrylics with some brown washes. I recently went back and added some rust weathering on it to really complete the industrial look.
I figured if all the Iron Man helmet mods count as customs that a ray gun would be OK to submit. Thanks for approving.

If it looks cool, I'll usually let it on through to the Showcase, that's why I've been approving the dioramas lately.
That liquid in the vial makes the whole gun pop! How did you paint it? I have a broken drill I could probably use to make one of these gadgets...

Man I didn't think we could post things like this on here. But this Ray gun is AWESOME! looks like you put a lot of work on it.
I think I want to put mine up, too. Although, it's not as good. But this has gotten me something to strive for!
Thanks for this.
