I'm partial to Leonard Nimoy as Spock, so I looked high and low for a head that would fit, but could not find anything I liked. This is a heavily modified "Old Man Spock" from the 2009 "Star Trek" movie action figure line. I added a little sculpt for his brow and ears and carved away a lot of the baggy jowls the original head had. For those partial to Quinto as Spock, I made the figure so both heads could be swapped. the collar is kind a combination of the original series uniforms and a bit of a turtleneck from the original cast movies which came later. ![[Security Chief Lieutenant Pavel Andreievich Chekov] So, being a big fan of Cawley Entertainment Company's "Star Trek: Phase II - The New Voyages", I decided I should add a couple of characters from the web series that was designed to continue the story of the Starship Enterprise under the command of Captain James T. Kirk. In one specific episode, "Enemy: Starfleet" Chekov, now holding the rank of lieutenant, is promoted further to the position of Chief of Security, and thus now wears a red shirt.
This figure was a very simple head and hand swap from the Mirror Chekov onto the Trials and Tribble-Ations Chief O'Brien body using the boil and pop method (the O'Brien was the perfect choice since it was already in a ST: TOS red shirt). Since the O'Brien figure's forearms were molded from the previously released Scotty figure, I used my Dremel to remove part of the pre-molded lieutenant commander's rank stripes to have only one stripe designating him as a lieutenant. This figure comes from IDW's Star Trek: Mirror Images mini-series from 2008, and shows how Commander James T. Kirk rose to the command of the I.S.S. Enterprise by assassinating Captain Christopher Pike. So, I set about creating a Mirror Pike as he appeared in the series.

During the Prime Universe crew's time in the Mirror Universe, Kirk (masquerading as his counterpart) is assaulted by Mirror Chekov and his underlings in a failed attempt to assassinate the captain and have everyone move up in rank. During this failed attempt, Kirk's face is beaten and bloodied until one of Chekov's men turned on the ensign and sides with Kirk. When next we see Kirk after this, he is in his quarters with McCoy who notes the dried blood on the captain's face.

Peter David is one of my favorite writers. He's extremely prolific, with his hands in film, television, comics, and novels. Most people on this site will likely know him for his comic book work, having helmed some of the most famous story arcs in modern comics (Aquaman, Supergirl, Hulk, Spider-Man, Young Justice), and even having created his share of iconic characters (most notably, Spider-Man 2099). However, it is his work writing Star Trek novels that first drew my attention. I have had this figure sitting on my bench for a long time and finally decided to complete him.
RECIPE
McCoy - The whole figure and equipment is from Artasylum/Diamond Select TOS series which was made a few years ago. The figures joints were superglued together and then puttied and let dry for a few hours.
The uniform (top & pants) were done by using tissue paper, I cut out the tissue paper and then used watered down PVA glue and attached it to the base figure and once the tissue paper dries it's actually very rigid.
The equipment as mentioned above is also from Artasylum/Diamond Select TOS series, the communicator's flip top section was cut and glue in place to simulate a closed communicator. The medical pouch was made using another tricorder and some left over leather and both the figure and equipment were painted and weathered using Vallejo, GW and artist paints.

A lot of times the pathos and nature of any given character was largely determined by your own imagination. It is my opinion that this style of play fostered creativity in the children of that generation, something that is probably largely lost in today's world, since every property has some kind of cartoon or movie or some other kind of franchise to help push the merchandise, in which the characters and their motivations are clearly defined. I am just thankful that there are still children who choose to play with toys at all, what with all the other distractions that modern life has to offer them.
