The Dark Phoenix saga is the pinnacle storytelling of that run, so the choice was obvious since I had picked up a Mystique for something else. Painted with basecoats of Citadel black and then red; gold accents are Decoart metallics series drybrushed afterward with the exception of the Phoenix crest which was in Sharpie Paint Metallic. Mixed the color darker for the hair and also drybrushed the face with bleached bone over a coat of fleshtone to try for the Famke Janssen X3 look. But what Phoenix is complete without the Force? ![[Leatherhead] So another day, another TMNT custom. Second of the villains here, in the form of the killer Cajun croc, ole' Leatherhead!
Apparently, everyone and his cousin's pet dog decided to enter the Vile Volitions Custom Contest, so this entry was understandably overshadowed by some truly AMAZING work. Nevertheless, facing the judgment of your peers is the best way to drive improvement, so it was worthwhile, regardless (although I think poor Red Skull kinda got shafted). Ah well, learning experiences.
For some reason, this one version of Killer Croc was mistakenly given a tail, making it a perfect base for Leatherhead. Replaced the head with head from the original '80s figure, complete with opening mouth. Sculpted neck to make it seamless with the heavily scaled back. Added elbows with bicep rotation, and shin rotation, didn't add knees for fear of ruining sculpt. Actually when my 6 year old came to me with his favourite toy broken I told him not only could I fix it, I would make it better for him. I’ve never worked with this scale before and it was a nice change up. Base figure is the Jango Fett that came with the blue poncho thingy and removable armour. Lower arms are from a random Snowtrooper and new magnetic jetpack (original one got lost) comes from a Clone Wars Anakin figure. I received my instructions on color and where to paint and got to work.

Always liked the costume design for Red Skull in the "Captain America - Operation: Rebirth" story arc. Simple, utilitarian, effective.
