I won't tell you how many I bought… Even I was disappointed in this line but much like my self satisfying salvage of Superman Returns, I saw potential in the parts over the failure of the line.
All the parts were already there they just needed to be assembled correctly. THe Kingdom of the Crystal Skull figures had a GREAT likeness but they all came either without a hat or with a HUGE hat to accommodate the full head fitting. The figures that DID come with fitted hats looked like pitbulls or looked like out hero was being squeezed through a vice… The eyes were all wonky and the head just looked like dook. So I took those heads and scalped the hats right off. Then I took the KOTCS heads and lopped them off right about the eyebrows. Christopher Reeve Superman anyone?…
Anyway, he is made from a surplus Indiana Jones figure with hair and shirt altered and a jacket from an ultimate soldier figure. I had planned to use this format for a Toht figure but I tried it once and wasn't crazy about the results but THIS seems much more worth the effort. The shirt is colored with 3 different shades of sharpie. Upper part is pinstriped with fine point.
I also made packaging for this figure since I had seen that done as well BUT I wanted to take a few liberties with the traditional Star Wars adaptation. Since it wasn't really a Lucas film movie but WAS an 80's sci-fi movie I took a few turns to make this its own design. ![[Thor Avengers without Helmet] Well, I had picked up a few extra Thor figures as they went on clearance since all the Avengers characters have received their own 6" figure courtesy of Wallyworld. I was surprised that they went with the helmeted version of Thor vs unhelmetted. I took a couple swipes at correcting this. First I grabbed the power featured figure that swings his hammer thinking that would make a nice fit. That figure reaches more like a "nearly 6" height the head looked ok but not great. The light comes from a $1 book light with a long neck on it. Here I took a sheet of 1/2" foamboard removed the paper (both sides so it lays flat) and traced a pre-graphed scale drawing of the front of the Movie GhostBusters Firehouse. Once primed I laied in my dirty brick red and saved enough for the door (cardstock) The window panes were spray painted black and then the plastic was applied… THEN i masked of the lower parts and sprayed the plastic to black out the top panes. ![[Superman: the Movie | Christopher Reeve 5.0 Movie ] Hello again from the work table of GeeKSummit!!!
Here I have my Christopher Reeve 5.0… Quite possibly my 50th custom this year!!!
This figure takes several elements to the next level with more detailed sculpting to the boots, upper torso and my new favorite technique for cape attachment.
Boots are sculpted to give the feel of wrinkles near the ankles along with that standoff look toward the upper shins. The lower torso is enhanced as before in the Salkind manner and the upper torso is sculpted over to give more prominence to the ribcage and chest. The cape top is sculpted on to give total control of its presentation allowing for the fabric soft goods cape to the attached on the back likewise for total control in presentation. Head was an unretouched DCD New Krypton head, but has since been replaced with a new resculpted and recast Superman likness with a more "reevey" harido.
